#ThirstyThursday: Guylian Chocolate Milk & Coffee Review: If Chocolate Is Heaven, Coffee Is Kinda Like Earth

Seashells just remind me of two things – one, the beach, and two, chocolates.

Guylian has become a household name by now for us Singaporeans who grew up eating their iconic hazelnut-filled, seashell and seahorse-shaped chocolate pralines that we received and gave as gifts since we couldn’t afford Godiva and these, in its fancy looking box, was the next best thing.

But if you’re ever lazy to chew on these yummy choccies, good news!

It’s now taken on a liquid form in Tetrapak bottles as Guylian’s Chocolate Milk made with Belgian Chocolate, and even has a coffee counterpart which is also apparently made with Belgian chocolate (basically mocha).

These little bottles are available at 7-Eleven outlets islandwide and cost $2.40 per bottle, which is just as affordable and as worth it as their famed pralines.

Wait, they look familiar…

Yep, if they look familiar to you, you might have seen these drinks before in Cheers stores where they were sold last year in paper cups instead of the new packaging.

However, the drinks are now solely available at 7-Eleven stores and have been taken off Cheers’ shelves, so you won’t be able to find them there any longer.

Okay, now on to the good part.

How does the drink fare compared to the godly chocolates?

Guylian Chocolate Milk with Belgian Chocolate

If you are a chocolate lover, I’d say prepare to be transported to chocolate heaven.

Most chocolate milk drinks are more ‘milk’ than ‘chocolate’, but Guylian’s has such a generous amount of chocolate content that it could possibly take the throne in the realm of the chocolate milk kingdom.

At first sip, you’ll already be able to taste the rich and slightly bitter Belgian chocolate in the thick and velvety drink. It’s really, really rich – I could probably buy those Godiva chocolates now if it was transformed into real riches.

Heck, before you even drink it, the strong nutty smell would already have wafted into your nose.

It’s really just like having their classic pralines melted down to form this glorious concoction after adding an appropriate amount of fresh milk, and it honestly exceeded my expectations of what convenience store chocolate milk would taste like. Tastes damn atas.

Guylian Coffee with Belgian Chocolate

Sadly, for all the good that Guylian did with their chocolate milk, the coffee drink was vastly different from it.

It’s not that it’s bad, however. It’s creamy and there’s still a little bit of the nutty chocolate taste that retains in this drink, but the coffee taste isn’t as rich as I expected it to be after having high expectations brought about by their chocolate milk.

It leaves a feeling of wanting more – not of the drink, but wanting more of a stronger taste, for both the coffee and chocolate tastes were not enough for my liking.

The blend of the naturally rich Belgian chocolate flavour and the caffeine is very interesting nevertheless, and it isn’t too sweet either. Perhaps this drink would be more for the curious rather than actual coffee lovers.

To buy or not to buy…

Buy.

Seriously, I think the chocolate milk could really give Godiva a run for its money, so it’s worth the enlightenment on your next trip to 7-Eleven if you love chocolate milk as much as I do.

As for the coffee, only if you’re really curious about it lah.

Rating for the chocolate milk: 5/5 stars.

Rating for the coffee: 3/5 stars.
