Are you a successful man? If so, chances are that you’re afraid of your wife.
Okay, before anything, here’s a disclaimer: the word “successful” is very subjective, but over here, we’re referring to one who is successful in his career, holding a relatively high managerial position. And as usual, this is not based on hard facts, but observations, so don’t go around saying that science or statistics has proven this!
Back to the topic: the reason why successful men who are tigers during work became mice at home is that they need not prove to anyone that they’re strong. Let’s just use an example: Adam is a successful manager, and in work, he is respected by all his staff. He has the power over everyone in the office, and therefore, whenever he is in the office, he feels “strong”.
When Adam goes home, he no longer need to feel strong and powerful. He’s more willing to be “submissive”, since being in power for 100% of his time is a little overpowering. He’s willing to be “scared” of his wife—after all, he needs not prove to anyone that he’s powerful. He is powerful during office hour.
And let’s compare it to another inferior, unsuccessful man, Benny. Benny is an employee who is insecure during work, and is a “yes-man” who is constantly complaining about his work. During office hours, due to his work attitude, he’s constantly being scolded by his superior, and he hides all his frustration in him.
Once he reaches home, he wants to be in control—after all, for eight hours in the office, he has been under controlled and scolded. At home, he would want to balance his emotions, and therefore he controls his wife and scolds her for no reason.
By now, you should be able to see that it’s all about balance—that Adam has power during work, therefore is willing to lose his power after work, and Benny has no power during work, so he abused his power after work.
But of course, everything is all about the mindset: Adam is confident during work, while Benny is insecure.
