There’s a big difference between last year’s Christmas light-up in Orchard Road and this year’s light-up.
No, it’s not that it’ll be grander. Or that you’ll see more bubble tea shops there.
It’s that you can’t anyhowly smoke in Orchard Road le.

Well, other than that, what’s new, and what can we expect from this year’s Christmas show in Orchard Road?
For a start, this year’s event is going to be bigly.
The Greatest Gift
Every year, the light-up would have a theme.
Last year’s theme was “Magical Moments”, in which Disney and Pixar characters lit up the great street.
This year’s theme is “The Greatest Gift”, and instead of Mickey Mouse and Woody everywhere…
…it’ll be an area filled with the overweight man in red, Santa Claus.
For the first time, the light-up would be extended towards Grange Road and Orchard Link.
Guess they’ve more budget since they don’t need to pay licensing fee for Santa #justguessing

The light-up will be divided into three different zones: Tanglin, Orchard and Somerset.
There would be big gift boxes (because The Greatest Gift, yo), little Santas around and …snowflakes.
Oh, not the real ones lah.

Christmas Village. I Mean, Villages
If you think that lights are for old people, and just want to grab some IG-worthy food, you’re in luck: the Great Christmas Village returns for the third year and this time, it’s the Great Christmas Villages, because there would be three of them.
They’re located at *SCAPE, Grange Road Car Park and Shaw House Urban Plaza.
14 food trucks would be shuttling between *SCAPE and Shaw House Urban Plaza, which means these food trucks can really move (I’ve always thought they’re not real vehicles).
There will also be not 1, not 2, not 3 but 30 family-friendly rides and game booths in the *SCAPE and Shaw House Urban Plaza villages. If you want some thrilling ride that’ll send you into the air, they can be found at the Grange Road Car Park.

In addition, there would be a pop-up that features Hasbro toys, My Little Pony makeovers and a NERF obstacle course.

The event will start from 16 November 2019 to 1 January 2020, and President Mdm Halimah Yacob will be at the Light-Up Ceremony on 16 Nov, 6.30pm at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.
