Thousands of ‘Penis Fishes’ Washed Ashore On a California Beach

When I was still in school I completed a lot of essays, just like many other zombies in the education system. Most of them were about serious topics, such as inequality and poverty.

I’m sure that you, dear reader, have also dabbled in writing some of these topics and more. But have you ever written about Penis Fishes?

For starters, thank you for clicking on this article.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who’s curious about strange penis-shaped fishes that have literally covered this entire beach.

These penis fishes have also been described by a biologist to feel like a “slimy water balloon”.

Glad that we’ve gotten that fact out of the way. Now we can get to explaining where these penis fishes are coming from.

A beach in Point Reyes California has been blessed with thousands of marine worms known as “penis fish” on 6 December.

Marine worms? Nah, “Penis fish” sounds way cooler.

What’s most disturbing is that they are pink in colour and go by various other names like “fat innkeeper worms”. Hey, that’s rude.

They usually live under the sand, but after a raging storm, they were stranded on the beach. Experts reveal that they probably got pushed out of their homes in the sand due to strong waters.

Fun fact: They can be found along the US Pacific coast and grow up to 19 inches long.

Also, they’re a very yummy delicacy enjoyed by many, including otters, stingrays, seagulls and even… humans.

Well sort of, it has a look-alike relative called the Urechis unicinctus, better known as “gaebul” in China and Korea.

They are a “sought-after” item in some South Korean fish markets and are consumed raw. Those who enjoy this delicacy love it for its chewy and salty but at the same time sweet taste.

Hmm.

And if you’re wondering why the **** they look like shrivelled up hot dogs, that’s probably because they burrow very deep into the sand in U shaped subterranean tunnels.
