Usually, the Mid-Autumn Festival is an occasion associated with sugar, spice and everything nice. After all, mooncakes are high in sugar, and candles could get pretty spicy if they’re left to their own devices.
But here’s the thing; the Mid-Autumn Festival could also prove menacing under the wrong hands. And as unlikely as it sounds…
Such instances could indeed occur.
TikToker Chased Down Woodlands Residents so that They Can Blow out Mid-Autumn Festival Candles
You may have already seen Tik Tok user jszsaf’s video, which has been making its rounds on the video-sharing site.
In the 01:02 clip, the user could be seen chasing after a man and a woman, asking: “Are you going to put out the fire?”
Apparently, the pair had lit numerous small candles on a public bench, which was located near a grass patch.
“I know that it’s the lantern festival. Is it so hard to be responsible? And clean up after you’ve had your fun?” the TikToker said.
The incident reportedly took place in a public housing estate in Woodlands.
The user then continued chiding the pair, stating that there was a grass patch nearby. But the woman simply said:
“Near the grass ah, I thought I burn on the tiles what.”
Apparently, an “Indian uncle” has already talked to the pair beforehand, but his advice allegedly fell on deaf ears.
The TikTok continued to follow the pair, as they looked increasingly uncomfortable.
“Didn’t the Indian uncle scold you just now…” the user demanded. “And you didn’t know how to put out the fire?”
The man then attempted to give an explanation, before he began apologising. But the woman was not of the same opinion, as she continued to reiterate how the flames were “small and thin.”
This evidently struck a nerve, as the user retorted: “Yeah, just like your brain. It’s very thin and very small”.
The pair eventually caved in and went back to extinguish the candle flames. The Indian uncle also thanked the user for challenging their errant ways.

Netizens have also expressed surprise over the sheer number of candles, with some likening it to a ritual of sorts.
“Knn so many candles, they summoning Lucifer or what,” one wrote.
Others have also lauded the Tik Tok user for her bravery.
“When some people only know how to film it on phone and post it online,” a Netizen wrote. “This girl actually dares to ask them to clean their mess up. Kudos.”
SCDF
Thankfully, there was no need for the SCDF to intervene.
However, as a general rule of thumb, they have cautioned that the public should “avoid placing candles on grass patches and fields” during the seventh lunar month.
Meanwhile, on a more positive note, you may want to check out this year’s Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival Light-up.
With around 900 lanterns, it’s a sheer sight to behold.
And no fire hazard too.
