A timeline of what happened that lead to the raging of “Umbrella Lady” on 25 May 2016

Have you heard about the battle between a car workshop and an insurance company? If you have not, just think back to the movie “Chicken Rice War” released by Raintree Pictures back in 2000, remove the romance and replace competition between hawkers with unhappiness about parking spaces and you’ll probably get it.

In case you missed the epic showdown between both companies that took place on 25 May 2016, here are 2 video clips that were uploaded to social media.

And the second one allegedly from CCTV within the workshop.

Similar to Chicken Rice wars, no one was really sure what happened to cause the altercation until Channel 8 News went to dig into it. According to online sentiments, it seemed that the battle that took place on 25 May 2016 was the culmination of half a year of pent up frustrations with a lot of back-and-forths between both companies.

Here’s what we know (so far) about the entire incident.

Opening of Car Workshop
According to Viralcham, the car workshop opened for business November 2015 next to the insurance company according to a Facebook post by Cindy Soh, allegedly an employee of the workshop.

Conflict over parking spaces
In December 2015, Soh uploaded images of an employee from the insurance company kicking down oil drums the workshop had put in place to mark out the parking space boundaries between both companies.

Of course, with such blatant disregard for them, the workshop has to retaliate. With some (creative) use of cones and talisman, the workshop fashioned new items to act as the boundary between both businesses. And this was what they came up with:

Continued disregard for boundaries
Not that the cones helped them. In fact, this was what happened after.

Pent up frustrations
Of course, if the conflict that took place yesterday was only due to these two notable incidents, then we have to say that the umbrella lady really has a quick temper, but a quick scroll through Soh’s Facebook seems to infer that small and minor quarrels between both businesses are not uncommon and employees from both businesses were equally unhappy with each other.

Police investigation
The police are now investigating the case as a case of affray.
