Three Hospitalised, 50 Evacuated as Electrical Kitchen Fire Engulfs Toa Payoh Block 63 Unit

Three people were rushed to the hospital after a kitchen fire broke out at Block 63, Lorong 5 Toa Payoh on 6 Oct 2025.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force received the alert at around 9.45am, reported The Straits Times.

SCDF officers arrived to find the kitchen of a third-floor unit engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a water jet.

Emergency Response and Evacuation

About 50 residents from the affected block were evacuated by SCDF and police officers as a precautionary measure.

Two people were assessed for smoke inhalation and transported to Singapore General Hospital. A third person who felt unwell was conveyed to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations by SCDF indicate the fire likely originated from an electrical source in the kitchen.

The exact cause remains under investigation.

MP Provides Assistance to Affected Residents

Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP Cai Yinzhou arrived at the scene and confirmed he is assisting evacuated residents and casualties.

In a Facebook post on 6 Oct 2025, Cai stated that his team is working with HDB to re-home two units with young children.


Community networks are being mobilised to reinstate and crowdsource furniture and appliances for affected residents. Visits have been conducted to all units housing vulnerable individuals to assess the impact of the incident.

Cai thanked the police, SCDF, People’s Association staff, Town Council, and community members who assisted on-site.

Fire Safety Reminders

SCDF issued fire safety reminders following the incident. The public should not overload electrical outlets with multiple appliances. Appliances must be switched off when not in use.

Residents should regularly inspect electrical wires for damage. Wires should not be run under carpets or mats, and must be kept away from hot surfaces.

SCDF warned against leaving batteries or devices charging unattended for extended periods or overnight. Only appliances and electrical plugs bearing the safety mark should be used
