On 21 May 2025, a 54-year-old former taxi driver was arrested for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a female passenger.
Later on, it was revealed that he may have sexually assaulted as many as 50 women over 17 years.
Tokyo Police Arrest 54-Year-Old Man for Drugging Female Passenger
A Tokyo police spokesman told AFP that the suspect drugged a woman in her 20s in 2024, causing her to lose consciousness.

The driver then took the unconscious woman to his home and committed an indecent act, which he filmed. Traces of sleeping pills were later detected in the victim’s hair according to media reports.
The man faces charges of non-consensual sexual intercourse and violation of laws regarding the filming of sexual parts.
Investigation Reveals Extensive Collection of Assault Videos Dating Back to 2008
Police discovered approximately 3,000 videos and images on the man’s phone and other devices. The Yomiuri Shimbun daily and Jiji Press reported that these materials show him sexually assaulting around 50 women.
The footage dates back to 2008. The assaults took place both in his taxi and at his home.
The suspect had been arrested previously on similar charges. Police had arrested him in October 2024 on suspicion of drugging another woman and robbing her of 40,000 yen (S$360).
He was released but taken into custody again in December 2024 for alleged indecent assault.
