A New Tom & Jerry Cartoon That’s Set in Singapore Will Drop Next Month

If you talk to anyone about iconic cartoons they watched in their youth, the cat-and-mouse duo will probably come to mind.

Yes, we’re talking about Tom and Jerry.

For those who miss the cartoon and the hilarious antics of the pair, the good news is that you will soon be able to watch the cartoon with some familiar landmarks in sight.

Singapore will be featured in some scenes of the cartoon’s upcoming episodes.

Here is what you need to know.

Singapore Will Be Featured in Upcoming Tom and Jerry Episodes

Calling all the Tom and Jerry fans in Singapore. Are you ready to spot some iconic local sites featured in the show?

Earlier this week, on Wednesday (26 July 2023), Warner Bros Discovery announced that the iconic cartoon series will be making its first-ever localised series.

And Singapore has made the cut to be featured.

The lovable pair consisting of Tom (a grey cat) and Jerry (a brown mouse) will take their rivalry through the streets of Singapore.

Here’s hoping we will get some scenes of Tom crashing into angry hawkers and causing a mess.

In particular, Christopher Ho, the Head of Kids – Southeast Asia at Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed some scenes which fans can look forward to.

The “Singaporean twist” will include “distinctive landmarks, backdrops and atmosphere” to create a “humorous addition to the Tom and Jerry canon”.

Localised Episodes to Premiere This Year

This localised series will be produced in Asia and feature seven episodes.

It will premiere on Cartoon Network in Asia Pacific and HBO GO in Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong later this year before being rolled out internationally.

The pilot episode of this series is set to be released in August this year. The other episodes in the series will be rolled out later this year.

Apart from Singapore being featured in the cartoon series, Singapore animation studios are also a highlight of this upcoming series.

The Asia-featuring cartoon episodes will be produced in Asia, and the project is animated by Aum Animation Studios India, with stories and designs from Singapore-based Robot Playground Media and Chips and Toon Studios.

Tom and Jerry Merchandise May Be Launched as Well

If you cannot get enough of the cartoon and want something more than just watching the series, you can look forward to some merchandise.

Warner Bros Discovery also shared plans to “launch additional Tom and Jerry-branded consumer products to complement the series launch later this year”.

Here’s hoping that Singapore skylines will make it to the merchandise.
