Someone Put Toothpicks at Lifts To Let Others Press the Buttons with It

The current Wuhan virus outbreak situation is getting worse. There are currently over 40,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus all over the world.

That is a large number.

The total number of fatalities has also surpassed 900 deaths.

In Singapore alone, there have been 43 confirmed cases, of which four are in critical condition while six have successfully overcome the virus.

Due to the recent number of cases that have had no clear links to past coronavirus cases or recent travel to China, Singapore has raised the DORSCON code to Orange.

This has inevitably triggered panic mode amongst Singaporeans.

This is a fine example of this:

Don’t believe me? Just look:

A Facebook user by the name of Raven Qiu took to Facebook page Complaint Singapore to share a peculiar sight.

While others go around donating masks out of the goodness of their hearts, at least one individual donated toothpicks.

He even provided a bag for people to dispose of the toothpicks.

Lest you’re unaware, lift buttons are one of those contact points that are less than hygienic, much like the poles and seats in MRTs and buses.

It’s not clear if Raven is the mastermind behind this toothpick scheme, or if he/she simply snapped a picture to share it on social media.

It’s great that Singaporeans have taken such initiatives to try to counter the spread of the novel coronavirus, however, living in constant anxiety until the virus blows might be a little over the top.

Instead of letting fear take over, we can ensure minimal disruption to our everyday life while still fighting the virus by practising proper personal hygiene.

For instance, do wash your hands regularly and don’t anyhowly touch your face.

All that being said, I applaud the initiative this person has taken to try to help out those around him.

Let’s hope that we Singaporeans continue to band together to fight the virus as one.
