A 25-year-old Indian tourist received a three-month jail sentence for molesting a 12-year-old girl at Jalan Besar Swimming Complex.

Pramender, who goes by one name, was sentenced on 16 May 2025 after pleading guilty to molesting the girl and attempting to obtain an indecent act from her.

Swimming Pool Incident Leads to Multiple Unwanted Advances

The incident occurred on 31 March around 5:50pm when the victim was at the complex with her aunt, uncle, and five cousins.

The girl noticed Pramender staring at her as she exited the pool. After wrapping herself in a towel, she walked to the female toilet with her belongings.

Pramender followed her to the entrance and requested that she follow his Instagram account.

When she refused, he grabbed her unlocked phone and used it to follow himself on the social media platform.

During this interaction, he gave her a side hug with his left arm around her shoulder and neck. This caused the towel she had wrapped around her body to fall off her shoulder, resulting in direct contact between them.

Pramender then asked the shocked girl to enter the female toilet with him. With his arm still around her, he attempted to pull her toward the entrance but released her when she resisted.

He entered the female toilet alone and called for her to join him, but she walked away instead.

After trying again from the male restroom, he sat on a bench outside and asked her to sit beside him. She rejected his advances each time.

The girl found two cousins beside a pool and told them what happened. She asked a female cousin to accompany her to the toilet.

Pramender followed both girls and loitered outside the female toilet entrance. A male cousin then blocked him from entering and demanded he leave.

While waiting outside, Pramender sent the victim 13 Instagram direct messages and two audio calls, all within less than five minutes.

The messages included: “Waiting for you”, “please outside meet”, “u brother waiting”, “reply please”, and “I like u”.

The girl and her cousin reported the encounter to a lifeguard, and her mother filed a police report at 11pm that day.

Police arrested Pramender on 2 April.

Court Proceedings Highlight Predatory Behavior Toward Young Victim

In court on 16 May, Pramender pleaded guilty to one charge of molesting a child under 14 and another for attempting to procure the commission of an indecent act by a child.

District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt also took a third charge of trespassing into consideration for sentencing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ashley Chin stated that Pramender caused sexual exploitation and harm to the young and vulnerable victim, who is now 13 years old.

“There were clear, intentional and repeated attempts to procure some type of sexual gratification from the victim. He even attempted to pull her into the toilet,” the prosecution said.

The prosecution sought a jail term of two to three months.

During mitigation, the unrepresented Pramender apologized through a translator, adding that he had already done so with the girl’s family.

He asked the judge for leniency, claiming his mother was a cancer patient and that he wanted to return to India as soon as possible.

Judge Chay described Pramender’s acts as persistent and predatory advances, emphasizing the victim’s young age. He noted that the situation might have escalated if the victim’s cousins had not been present to help her.

Those convicted of molesting a child below 14 years old can be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments.
