Two Indian women were apprehended at Changi Airport on 2 June 2025 for stealing items from shops while in transit from Kolkata, India, to Bali, Indonesia.
Details of the Offences
Goenka Simran, aged 29, entered the Furla store in Terminal 3 at 1:40pm and took a yellow purse valued at over S$300, reported The Times of India.
She placed the purse on her luggage trolley and left the store without paying. Simran also admitted to stealing a bottle of perfume from a cosmetics shop in Terminal 2, which was worth more than S$200.

Garg Prasha, aged 30, entered the Charles & Keith store in Terminal 2 at around 7am. She took a black haversack bag, valued at over S$80, and placed it in her luggage trolley before leaving the shop without paying.
A staff member noticed the theft and alerted the authorities. Prasha was found and arrested shortly after, with the haversack recovered in its original condition.
Police Response and Recovery
The Singapore Police Force received a report about the theft at 2:25pm.
Officers from the Airport Police Division used CCTV footage to identify and locate both women within one hour. The women were detained before they could leave Singapore.
All three stolen items, with a total value of S$635, were recovered.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Both women were charged in court on 10 June 2025 with theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871.
Simran pleaded guilty to one count of theft in dwelling and was sentenced to eight days’ jail. Another similar charge was considered during sentencing. Prasha pleaded guilty to one count of theft and was fined S$700.
The maximum penalty for theft in dwelling in Singapore is up to seven years’ jail, a fine, or both.
