If you were wondering why there was a massive jam on a Sunday morning, this article would be your answer.
On Sunday (9 June 2019), three accidents happened along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), and the three accidents all happened within an hour at the same location.
The accidents resulted in eight people being injured, and thankfully no casualties.
According to Chinese daily Shin Min Daily, they also caused a 3km jam.
Among the two that were injured were a Traffic Police officer and a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic who were attending to other injured people.
How did it all start?
First Accident
The first accident happened at around 11:15 a.m. along the PIE, heading towards Changi Airport before the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) exit.
This accident involved two cars and a tipper truck. A silver car had spun on the road before it collided with the truck and another seven-seater SUV. Due to the force of the impact, the car was damaged severely.
Its hood was crushed, and the windshield shattered.
One thing leads to another, though.
Second Accident
A while after that, two motorcycles skidded at the same location.
But in separate accidents.
It’s unknown whether they were distracted by the accident or other vehicles had slowed down to take a look (very common), causing the motorcycles to skid.
This isn’t the end of this saga.
Third Accident
The Traffic Police and the SCDF arrived at the scene of the accident. As they should be.
But after they arrived, a third car skidded. This time, it hit a 30-year-old Traffic Police officer and a 26-year-old SCDF paramedic who were attending to the earlier accidents that occurred.
The two motorcyclists, aged 35 and 37 respectively, were moving their motorbikes away from the road to avoid obstructing traffic. Nice dudes, but they, too, got hit by the skidding car.
And of course, once again, no one’s certain whether the driver was distracted or there were some conditions on that patch of road.
Aftermath
If you’re lost about the injuries so far, here’s a little recap.
Four people who were involved in the first accident were indirectly injured as a result of the third accident.
A Traffic Police officer and SCDF paramedic were injured as a result of the third accident.
The two motorcyclists from the second accident were also injured as a result of the third accident.
All in all, things became worst because of the third accident.
Warned Beforehand
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) actually issued a notice around the time of the first accident to inform drivers of the accident along the PIE. They also reminded drivers to avoid lanes two and three.
At 11:30 a.m., another notice was issued to inform drivers that the jam extended to the BKE.
All eight people who were injured were taken to the hospital, according to the police. But the conditions of each patient is unknown.
So who is taking the blame for all this?
The police have arrested a 44 year-old, who was the driver of the third car for rash act causing grievous hurt.

In the video, it was even captured that a black car hit someone that was on a stretcher. Talk about reckless driving.
Moral of the story, always be safe and alert on the roads. And don’t be distracted by accidents, please.
