2 People Killed in TPE Accident on Tuesday Evening That Led to a 4-Hour Jam; 4 Were Sent to Hospital As Well

If you were driving home along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) yesterday evening (18 Aug) and you got caught in a huge traffic jam, it’s because of this major accident.

According to CNA, the Singapore Police Force was alerted to an accident that happened along TPE towards Seletar Road at around 4.20pm.

A motorcycle and a car were involved in the accident and the motorcyclist, a 62-year-old man, as well as his pillion rider, a 59-year-old woman, were killed in the accident.

The pair was reportedly pronounced dead on the scene.

Four people were conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital, reportedly the 31-year-old driver of the red car in the collision and his three passengers, including a ten-year-old.

Debris Scattered Across Three Lanes Of The Road

A video of the aftermath, made up of different footage from different people, was circulated online.

Three lanes of the expressway were closed, with debris scattered all around the road.

A demolished red Suzuki car and a mangled motorcycle could be seen lying on the road as well.

Currently, it was not revealed what happened.

Led To Massive Four-Hour Jam

According to Mothership.sg, the accident led to a massive jam.

With three lanes affected, traffic along the TPE slowed down to a crawl..

Three out of four lanes were closed and even at around 8pm, traffic along the expressway was still slowed down to a crawl.

Road Traffic Situation In S’pore

In the first half of 2020, the Traffic Police announced that Singapore’s road traffic situation has improved.

There was a drop in injuries and fatalities from traffic accidents:

  • 33.3% drop in accidents resulting in injuries
  • 37.3% drop in injured people from traffic accidents
  • 18.6% drop in accidents resulting in fatalities
  • 15.3% drop in fatalities from traffic accidents

The drop is mainly attributed to the Circuit Breaker from 7 Apr to 1 June where there are lesser vehicles on the roads.
