As we head into the 7th month of the pandemic, there have been many measures introduced to help with contact tracing measures in Singapore.
One such measure, TraceTogether, will now be expanded physically to more locations islandwide.
Roving Booths
There will be about 100 locations where you can find TraceTogether collection points, including popular malls. This will make it more convenient for residents to collect their tokens. At the booth, you can also find out how to download and use the contract tracing app in case you may not be familiar with it.
The nationwide distribution exercise started on 14 September this year, where citizens could collect their TraceTogether tokens from their nearest community centres.
With more collection points, the authorities aim to create a community-driven system.
While these tokens are not compulsory to be collected, the token functions similarly to the app, and detects nearby Bluetooth signals to record other nearby TraceTogether devices.
According to the Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG), the programme reduces the time taken to identify close contacts from four days to less than two days on average.
Collection Points
Some booths have already been deployed since last Friday, and you can find them at these locations:
- Chinatown Point
- Causeway Point
- Paragon
- City Square Mall
- Great World City
Other locations you can expect to find a booth includes Funan, Singpost Centre and Takashimaya. The full list of locations and collection times can be found here.
SNDGG explains that the booths will be set-up in areas with larger crowds so that the public can collect their tokens more conveniently.
Perks of a TraceTogether Token
Many of us are probably used to scanning SafeEntry QR codes whenever we enter a new place and sometimes, it’s a hassle.
Plus let’s not forget those moments where you couldn’t find your phone because it’s deep in your bag or your Singpass app stopped working just when you needed it the most.
The TraceTogether token was designed to be easy to use and convenient to carry around. To make things easier, you can even hang it on your lanyard.
Once your token has been collected and registered, you do not need to do anything else. You just have to bring it around wherever you go. It doesn’t even require cellular activity or an internet connection. You don’t need to charge it as well.
Your data will be encrypted upon registration, so you don’t have to worry about your data getting stolen. Even if you lose your token, you can be assured that nobody can hack into it to steal your personal data.
Once a Covid-19 case is confirmed, the Ministry of Health (MOH) will inform the patient that their data is required. Once they have handed over their tokens, the contract tracing teams will then use the data to identify close contacts. Which means that your encrypted data will only be accessed if you were in close contact with a positive Covid-19 case.
Everyone and anyone can collect a token from a nearby booth. It’s free. And the best part? It saves battery.
