Previously, it was reported that the Ministry of Health (MOH) wanted to increase the usage of the TraceTogether app.
Because while there were lots of downloads, barely anyone turned it on, making the 45% usage a far cry from the targetted 70% usage.
To combat this, it was also announced that by the end of the year, you’ll need TraceTogether to enter a number of areas.
These include restaurants, workplaces, schools and shopping malls.
So basically, almost everywhere is what we’re saying.
At least it’s a fairly simple app to use.
But if you’re lazy, you can check out our quick video guide (watch it to the end) on how it works.
But still, some people there are people who don’t have phones or possess old ones without app usage.
This is where one could go to collect the optional Tamagotchi…I mean, TraceTogether token.
It even works the same as the app, exchanging and logging Bluetooth signals between nearby devices that are in close proximity.
And I know it says optional but…
You know about Singapore and the legendary long queues right?
High In Demand
Here we go again.
The classic super long queues were back again outside several collection centres.
According to Mothership, centres like the ones at Riverdale even saw some people queueing before the collection started.
They also reported that the waiting time outside Sengkang CC was around 1.5 hours.
I guess this is also a different kind of mid-autumn festival queue?
Naturally, the bigwigs had to stop in to control this chaos.
GovTech (Government Technology Agency of Singapore) advised Singaporeans not to rush and that they didn’t need it if they already had the app downloaded.
You know how in school there’s that one guy who buys two of the same textbooks in case ‘he’ll lose one”?
This is the same thing.
Don’t let your kiasu-ing make someone who actually needs it unable to get one.
They’re being restocked…
…but that doesn’t mean you should waste Ah Gong’s money by having a token and the app, because some places have run out of stock faster than Hello Kitty soft toys:
What To Do If You Need One
Still, if you or some you know actually need it, perhaps you should brave the next queue.
You can go to token.gowhere.gov.sg, enter your postal code and see where your nearest collection point is.
And if we’ve learnt anything today, you need to check the availability too.
Make sure to bring your NRIC, student pass or child’s birth certificate too, unless you want to clock in another 1.5 hours of queue time…only to realise that when you’re back, it has run out of stock.
I’m sure you don’t.
Around 38 community centres and 12 mobile booths are distributing the tokens.
So by right, there should be enough to go around if you take what you need only.
