A 44-year-old Singapore permanent resident, Chang Lee Won, was killed in an accident along Malaysia’s North-South Expressway in the early hours of 31 October.

Collision During Family Trip to Kuala Lumpur

Chang and her family, who reside in Singapore, had started on the journey to her hometown in Kuala Lumpur in a Hyundai Starex.

Chang was accompanied by her Singaporean husband, their two sons aged 16 and 19, and a Malaysian driver driving the vehicle.

The accident occurred near the Yong Peng section of the expressway at approximately 5:30 am, according to reports from Shin Min Daily News and China Press.

Yong Peng is in Johor, an area that most buses would stop for breaks.

In the collision, which involved their Hyundai SUV and a Toyota Unser, one of the vehicles overturned due to the impact. Chang was killed instantly.

Her husband and younger son suffered minor injuries, while her older son and the Malaysian driver sustained more severe injuries and required extensive medical attention.

Malaysian rescue personnel received an alert about the accident at 5:04 am and promptly arrived at the scene. The emergency response took about one-and-a-half hours to manage the situation and transport the injured.

A neighbour of the family in Singapore shared that Chang’s family often visited Malaysia during extended school holidays.
