A personal trainer groped his trainee’s butt while she was working out to check her muscles.

It is a very serious offence in Singapore, and unfortunately this has happened way too many times with coaches abusing their position and authority to do things like that. I personally consider this more despicable and disturbing than molesting a stranger – this is using the student's trust to commit such an act, which can really mindfuck a person for a long time. The coach in this video is a freelance trainer working by himself, and is not an employee of the gym. I have reached out to the client (swipe to second image) to let her know that it is NOT normal for such physical interaction during training, it is very unprofessional, and that she can speak up if she have felt uncomfortable about her coach touching inappropriately and groping during some exercises. Also spoke to her (not on text), and it turned out this was indeed her first time having a coach, facing such situation for the first time. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗺 "don't touch my butt" a few times over 7 training sessions, but he still went ahead to do so, using "checking muscles" as an excuse – which many trainers will know that's complete BS. She will not be making a police report, but she has given me the permission to share about this as she also wants all women, girls, or even guys out there to know that this behaviour is not acceptable and that nobody should put up with any actions that make them feel uneasy, uncomfortable, and disrespected. Anyone that feels this way should speak up and not let the perpetrator has his/her way. #ShareThisPost I am very glad that @apeirolife doesn't tolerate such behaviour, and I'm happy to be conducting my PT sessions in a safe, fun, and professional space with other likeminded professional trainers. _

The trainee claims that it’s been happening for seven sessions, and she has repeatedly told the trainer that she was uncomfortable with the contact.

The gym, after being alerted to the saga, took immediate action to ban the personal trainer from the gym.

The trainee, meanwhile, decided not to lodge a police report.

Just when you think the case is considered close, a police report was lodged anyway.

Not by the trainee, but by the personal trainer himself.

Trainer Accused of ‘Touching Butt’ in Gym Responded & Said He’ll Be Filing Police Report for ‘False Accusations’

On the same day, the personal trainer, David Mesut, said the accusations were “false” and plans to lodge a police report.

Contrary to what his ex-client said, he claims that she “gave consent” to the physical contact.

He added that she has shown him the video and both of them “discussed the exercise she was doing”.

During the process, she didn’t object to “any aspects of the video” or sound out about the physical contact.

He said, “Right from the beginning, I had told her about physical contact on a particular part of her body and she said that she understood and therefore, consented.”

Currently, he’s in the process of obtaining legal advice.

How It Started

Cheryl Loh, who uses the gym for her own PT sessions, said she saw the pair about “two weeks ago”.

At first, she thought they were a couple, but when she saw them again on 31 Jul 2020, she decided to contact the trainee to inform her that the Mesut’s training method was “inappropriate”.

She pointed out that there are “many ways” a personal trainer can teach “muscle engagement” and this isn’t the way a professional trainer should train a client.

That was when the trainee told Loh about how uncomfortable she was with the physical contact and gave permission for Loh to share her story.
