Tree Catches Fire in Jurong West After Alleged Beehive Removal

A tall tree caught fire near Block 329 Tah Ching Road in Jurong West on 8 Aug at around 10:20pm. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident and extinguished the blaze using a hose reel and water jet.

Pest Control Operations Preceded Tree Fire

According to Shin Min Daily News, the fire allegedly started after a pest control company removed a beehive from the tree.

The pest control workers allegedly accidentally ignited the fire during their operations.

A video shared on the Facebook group Singapore Incidents showed the tree engulfed in flames.

Smouldering ashes dropped onto the grass verge below the tree during the fire.

Witness Accounts and Fire Response

A 26-year-old resident named Feng Shengkuan reportedly smelled smoke at his home and discovered an SCDF vehicle downstairs when he went to investigate. He observed firefighters spraying water on the tree, though no flames were visible by the time he arrived at the scene.

Feng initially suspected someone had thrown a cigarette butt from a unit above, causing the fire.

Another witness saw firefighters hosing the tree but did not observe any flames during the firefighting operation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
