People always say the business world is a dog-eat-dog world.

Nobody’s going to help you, they say. No one except people from your own company. Your own tribe.

Ironically, a company named Tribecar is going to show you that it doesn’t have to work this way.

By helping their ex-competitor’s employees.

Tribecar Offered to Help Ex-Smove Employees & Customers; Called Them a ‘Respected Competitor’

Smove is an hourly rental car service in Singapore which allows you to rent and drive any time you want.

To rent, all you have to do is to book a car through their app.

They had many cars scattered all around Singapore, and the reason why I used “had” is because they’re no longer around.

Tribecar is a competitor of Smove in the hourly car rental business.

But instead of celebrating the fact that they have one less (major) player to worry about, they decide to commemorate them instead.

In a Facebook post on 3 June, Tribecar calls Smove a “respected competitor”, a firm which made sure Tribecar never “rested on their laurels” and always work towards being better every day.

They also lauded Smove’s impressive history:

With the admirable ideals of a greener environment, they started audaciously with electric vehicles. Alas, their journey wasn’t as smooth as their namesake; the EV demand and infrastructure was not yet mature, and they had to pivot back to regular cars. Despite coming close to bankruptcy many times, Smove fought relentlessly and eventually made their mark by becoming the largest car-sharing operator then. Their history was remarkable.

For ex-Smove employees, they have created a Google Form where, if they are looking for a job, they can submit their resumes to.

These resumes, they say, will be shared among the various car-sharing companies in Singapore.

The companies are always on the lookout for “good people in CS, Marketing, Ops, Tech, Enforcement and Management”, they assured.

Not Just Employees

For Smove customers who still need car-sharing services, they are offering a 1-month $0 deposit trial in June/July.

They will also give a “5% matching Tribecar e-Wallet credit against their remaining Smove credits (up to $1,000) or $20 in Tribecar e-Wallet credit, whichever is higher”.
