Truck-Car Collision at Punggol Junction Injures Seven Migrant Workers, Five Hospitalized

Traffic accidents are increasingly common nowadays.

It is no surprise to come across at least one picture of a road accident as you browse your favourite news platforms every day.

Just yesterday, 1 Mar 2025, in the evening at around 6:40 PM, there was a severe accident that happened at the junction of Punggol East and Punggol Central.

A collision between a truck and a car resulted in the truck losing control and mounting a pedestrian walkway.

Multiple migrant workers inside the truck and those seated in the truck bed sustained injuries. Five of which were sent to the hospital.

Severe Injuries Reported

According to zaobao.sg, the photo provided by a reader shows two workers sitting in the truck bed have unfortunately suffered more serious injuries.

One of them was lying face down with a bleeding wound on his head and a large pool of blood next to him. Another worker was lying nearby with blood stains on his sleeve.

When reporters arrived at the scene, numerous police officers and civil defense personnel were already at the scene.

The car involved in the accident remained in the middle of the road with its front badly damaged.

Car debris was scattered across the road and there were also oil stains on the road.

Some workers had set up barriers around the vehicle and were helping to direct the traffic. A man, believed to be the driver, was being interrogated by the police officers.

Eyewitness Account

A migrant worker who was an eyewitness of the accident revealed in an interview that the truck was traveling along Punggol East before the accident.

When it reached the junction, it collided with a car that was going straight along Punggol Central.

“After the collision, the truck lost control and plowed straight ahead, mounting the pedestrian walkway. The truck only stopped after hitting the hoardings of our construction site,” said the eyewitness.

The police and Civil Defence Force confirmed the accident. The police stated that five passengers from the truck, aged between 25 and 45, were taken to the hospital while conscious.

The case is still under investigation.

The Civil Defence Force also confirmed that four out of five of the injured persons were sent to Sengkang General Hospital. The other victim was taken to Changi General Hospital for treatment.

Two others who were involved in the crash were assessed by medical personnel and found to have minor injuries but refused to be sent to the hospital.
