Have you wondered how the word “Bae” came about? Why are there so many different explanations for Bae? What truly is a “bae”?

Well, this Goody Feed writer has done sufficient research and philosophized Bae’s true meaning. Trust me, knowing what Bae’s real meaning is, you’ll want to stop using it from now on. If you don’t reconsider your choice of using Bae by the end of this article, well. That’s entirely your choice, I guess.

Bae has only come into popularity recently when it was popularized by Pharrell Williams’s Come Get It Bae.

Come Get it Bae is a funk song, and to say that it’s full of innuendos is an understatement . In the song, it’s assumed that “Bae” in Come Get it Bae is a shortened form of “baby”.

Bae is often used to describe a lover since many people assumed that Bae is derived from is similar sounding “Baby”, but what if we told you it’s not? Another school of thought thinks that B.A.E is an acronym that stands for–wait for it–Before Anyone Else.

There’s another group of people who believed that the word came around because in the past, some boyfriends were too lazy to enunciate every word properly, so “baby” became “babe”, and eventually became “bae” when they couldn’t even be bothered to close their mouths properly.

But, do you want to know the TRUE MEANING of Bae, not as an internet lingo but its official meaning? Just a warning, after knowing this, you might not want to use this word affectionately with your partner anymore. Unless you’re into that kind of thing, of course.

Bae is actually the Danish word for poop. Yes you read that right. Shit. Bae, in Danish, means shit. Imagine calling your girlfriend or boyfriend bae in front of people from Denmark, you’ll be laughed out of the country. Or even worse, “Bae you’re so gentle, soft and warm”.

So remember, the next time you’re uploading images on Instagram or Facebook, the Danish people of the world would totally cringe when your Instagram caption is “So in love with Bae”. Either that or laugh themselves silly and make your image go viral.

Here’s a bonus. While not as bad, bae in Icelandic actually means goodbye, which is really a good thing to apply to your partner when you come to think about it.

Today, there are so many internet lingos and phrases being used out there. From YOLO, to swag, to the all new #YOLOSWAG. They’re still pretty okay but when it comes to words like Bae that takes on a totally different meaning in another language, it might be best not to use it even if countless others are.

Please don’t. Just don’t.
