Fire in Tuas Industrial Building Causes 8 to Be Rushed to Hospital For Burn Injuries

This year just doesn’t seem to be getting better, huh.

Just this morning (24 Feb), a fire broke out at 32E Tuas Avenue 11 at 11.25 am. According to CNA, witnesses heard a “loud explosion” at an industrial building in the area.

So far, eight people have been taken to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for burn injuries.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) discovered that a unit in the building was “smoke-logged”, according to their Facebook post. Firefighters also wore breathing apparatus to locate the fire.

They also added that the fire involved an industrial mixer and was extinguished with two water jets.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, as reported by The Straits Times.

The article by CNA also noted that eyewitnesses saw workers running out of the building screaming and had burns on their body.

One of them, Mr Frankie Goh, who worked in the next building, called for his colleagues to evacuate when he heard the explosion.

The affected building was where the migrant worker dormitory was, according to Mr Goh.

Another eyewitness, Mr Tan, also saw workers from another building attempt to entire the blazing building to help those who were inside.

Mr Sohel, a Bangladeshi national, was asleep in the dormitory on the third floor when the blast happened. Similarly to other witnesses, he saw workers with burns on their legs crying after he had run out from the building.

Thankfully, the explosion occurred on the first floor—merely a storage unit. The company there manufactured insulation pipes, Mr Sohel added.

SCDF said about 65 people in neighbouring units had cleared out of the building before firefighters arrived.

Hopefully, all victims will be able to receive treatment and recover quickly.
