What’s the best part about travelling?
Of course, most people would have a different reason. Be it exploring the world or getting to experience new cultures or just simply wanting to buy cheap branded goods back home, travelling is always fun.
But I think almost all of us can come to the consensus that the flight there and back itself has got to be one of the worst things when it comes to travelling, unless you’re like a pilot or something.
You gotta admit, it’s the most dangerous form of transport as compared to the bus or the train which is actually moving on solid ground and more stable, though statistically, it isn’t.
Being up there hurtling through the sky without a clue of the world outside is already anxiety-inducing enough, but there’s one thing that’s just the absolute worst – turbulence.
It can get so bad sometimes that objects fly around in the plane due to the sheer force of the outside pressure causing the plane to get thrown around, just like what happened on this fateful aircraft.
Turbulence Troubles
Flight VBB-7205, which carried 121 passengers, was flying from Kosovo to Switzerland when it experienced some really dangerous turbulence.
Apparently, the ALK Airlines flight was “deviating around an isolated active thunderstorm cell” when it flew over South Tyrol in Italy, 30 minutes before it was due to arrive in Basel, Switzerland.
Basically, the aircraft was in the middle of a roaring thunderstorm cell in the clouds, which sounds scary just by hearing about it.
Mirjeta Basha, a passenger on the flight, somehow had her survival instincts awakened for those instincts told her to start recording the chaos that was unfolding around her on video. I mean, at least there’s video proof of the crazy situation now, right? It made its way around social media too, as expected.
The video shows the plane shaking violently as passengers scream in panic, really sounding like they were on the Train To Busan rather than just a Plane To Switzerland, which you can watch in full here:
Fly High And Hit The Sky
When a big wave of turbulence hit, a flight attendant, the one in yellow, and her cart of food actually FLEW up and hit the ceiling before crashing back down to the floor. This caused the contents of the cart to spill out everywhere and on nearby passengers – including Mirjeta’s husband.
That’s really, really scary.
The screaming begins to intensify after that. Babies started wailing and people started praying, as seen in the video; a truly terrifying moment for all.
Mirjeta said that she was convinced the plane was going to crash and that she was scared to death. Well, anyone would be, honestly.
“They told us that we need not be afraid and everything will pass again,” she added in regards to the flight crew’s calm manner throughout the turbulence.
Truly admirable.
Safe Landing
After the ordeal, the plane thankfully managed to land in Switzerland.
Mirjeta’s husband, who had been scalded by the hot water from the cart, had to be sent to the hospital after landing at the airport along with nine others who sustained minor injuries.
Two and a half hours later, the same aircraft departed for a return flight – hopefully, the storm had passed.
No matter how scary turbulences can be, do remember to stay safe despite the nagging fear and follow the instructions of the flight crew carefully if it ever happens. For all the fun that travelling can be, sometimes the journey to beautiful places just aren’t all that smooth. #wisewords
