Art is said to be the product of the mind’s experiences.
With it being one of the main means of communication that can connect the world, there’re no boundaries to creativity in art.
Typically, we would see elderly uncles and aunties chitchatting under our void deck over mahjong or a cup of coffee.
For this uncle in Pek Kio (Owen Road) though, he likes to spend his past time being creative with twigs instead.
You must be wondering, what can you possibly do with a bunch of twigs? Read on and you’ll be surprised at the results of this uncle’s creations.
Facebook User Shares His Encounter Online
On Thursday (15 Jul), Facebook user Mr. Alex Chua shared his fortuitous encounter of meeting a skilled artist on the street.
According to Mr. Chua, he mentioned that he recalled seeing the uncle at the same spot whenever he went to Owen Road to buy food.
He was aware that the uncle was rearranging twigs around the floor. However, he never knew exactly what it was for.
Eventually, on Thursday, curiosity got the better of him. He decided to approach the uncle to find out what he was doing with the twigs.
They say curiosity kills the cat. Well, guess not this time around.
Uncle Uses Twigs and Stones to Create Portraits
Unexpectedly, the Pek Kio uncle was actually creating portraits by assembling twigs and stones.
Wow, talk about creativity at its finest.
According to MSNews, Mr. Chua gave praise to the uncle’s attention to detail. Additionally, he was also impressed by how he added eyelashes using tiny twigs.
When Mr. Chua approached him, the uncle who appeared to be in his 70s is said to be friendly.
But since he is camera shy, Mr. Chua wasn’t able to get an up-close portrait of him.
At the end of his FB post, Mr. Chua left off with the statement, “I am privileged today to have seen a real artist at work.”
Allegedly Featured by MP Alvin Tan
This uncle is most probably the same person who was featured by MP Alvin Tan last year.
Leading up to GE 2020, the MP shared his artwork after an encounter from a walkabout in the heartlands of Tanjong Pagar GRC.
In the post, which is no longer available, MP Alvin Tan mentioned that the uncle was “wildly creative” and would often do up soulful portraits made solely from random twigs.
