Singaporean and Indian National Drown in Strong Currents near Johor’s Pulau Mawar

Two men, including a Singaporean, drowned after being swept away by strong currents while swimming near Pulau Mawar in Endau, located on the east coast of Johor.

Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Lives Off Pulau Mawar

The incident occurred at around 2.37pm on 7 Apr 2025, involving three friends who had traveled from Johor Bahru to Mersing.

Authorities received a call for assistance, and the Endau Fire and Rescue Station promptly dispatched a team of seven personnel to the scene, arriving at approximately 2.56pm.

The location was about 20km from the station and roughly three hours’ drive from Singapore.

Singaporean Victim Identified as Search Operation Unfolds

The Singaporean victim, identified as 37-year-old V. Yogaraj, was found floating near the water’s surface by members of the public after he drowned. He was brought to shore but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Malaysian K. Anpananthan, 39, managed to save himself from the strong currents.

The third man, 45-year-old Indian national R. Narayanan, initially went missing in the waters. After an extensive search operation, rescuers discovered his body at around 4.50pm, approximately 300m from where he was reported missing.

Firefighters used a rescue rope to retrieve Narayanan’s body, which was later handed over to the police for further action.

The operation was led by the Endau Fire and Rescue Station, with the team utilizing one Light Fire Rescue Tender vehicle and a Hilux unit.

The search and rescue effort concluded at 6.21pm.
