In the fictional world, there are countless superheroes committed to fighting evil and saving us from doom.
But only one, to my recollection, has a metal mohawk. Yes, I’m talking about the one and only Ultraman.
Created in 1966, Ultraman eventually grew to become one of the most prominent tokusatsu superheroes.
Many a day in our childhood was spent watching this oddly-dressed superhero save Earth from grotesque monsters and aliens from outer space.
Recently, there was news of a dinosaur-like creature roaming Marina Bay Sands, scaring off the four tourists who had come to Singapore for Christmas.
Instead of calling the police or the army, however, the authorities called on Ultraman to save the day.
Latest Ultraman Episode Set in S’pore With Ultraman Flying Through MBS
To the delight of fans across the country, the first episode of an Ultraman series set in Singapore has finally dropped.
Uploaded on YouTube yesterday (7 Dec), it has already been viewed over 163,000 times.
The short 3-minute video doesn’t deviate much from Ultraman’s other adventures, and can be summarised in three lines:
Scary monster appears.
Ultraman swoops in.
Ultraman fights scary monster, wins, and everyone is eternally grateful.
The cool thing about this episode is that it takes place in MBS, which has been something of a ghost town during the pandemic.
Though what’s more infuriating than the monster’s threat to humanity is all the damage it does to the beautiful landmarks there:
This ghastly creature is the Red King, an ancient Godzillian monster that first appeared in Episode 8 of the Ultraman TV series. It has become one of the franchise’s most popular monsters, and has made recurring reappearances throughout the franchise
Naturally, the few tourists there are scared out of their minds, and run away screaming.
Fortunately for them, Ultraman flies in to save the day, making sure to show off his chiselled bottom in the process:
In the end, Ultraman dispatches the Red King with ease, and makes sure to bask in the admiration of the thankful tourists before flying back home, presumably to finish Hellbound.
Towards the end of the video, we get a teaser of Episode 2, where our favourite superhero will come up against what could be his toughest opponent yet: a strange fish with the head of a lion, also known as the Merlion:
