Crowds gathered early on 1 May 2025 for the grand opening of Uncle Roger’s fried rice restaurant at Mid Valley Southkey Mall in Johor Bahru.

The queue began forming thirty minutes before the official opening, with lines quickly stretching past neighbouring stalls, including the popular Oriental Kopi eatery.

Fifth Outlet for Viral Comedian

This marks the fifth outlet for the comedian Nigel Ng, better known as Uncle Roger.

The restaurant, named Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger, specialises in fried rice – the dish that propelled Ng to international fame through his viral YouTube videos critiquing fried rice recipes.

Many in the queue were Singaporeans eager to try the fried rice without crossing into Kuala Lumpur.

The Mid Valley Southkey Mall, already known for attracting large crowds from Singapore, saw even heavier foot traffic due to the opening.

Ng opened his first restaurant in September 2024 at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, where fans queued for up to three hours for a taste of his signature dish.

Since then, he has opened additional outlets in Kuala Lumpur, including a 24-hour branch at KLIA2.

The anticipation for the Johor Bahru outlet was high.

The queue persisted throughout the day, with some customers waiting well over an hour to order.

Social media posts showed excited fans, some wearing Uncle Roger’s trademark orange polo shirt, documenting their wait and sharing photos of their meals.

Uncle Roger’s fried rice menu features a variety of toppings and sides, but the main attraction remains the egg fried rice that made Ng a household name.

The restaurant’s location next to Oriental Kopi created a particularly busy stretch inside the mall, with staff managing the steady stream of customers from morning until closing.

Ng was not present at the Johor Bahru opening, but the turnout mirrored the enthusiasm seen at his previous launches.
