Maid Kicked 2YO’s Head & Hit His Lips with Metal Spoon coz’ She was ‘Unhappy’

As any parent would tell you, children don’t always listen to instructions.

Some parents resort to punishment like scolding them or taking away their toys, but one foreign domestic worker (FDW) had a slightly different approach: kicking, pinching, and abusing a two-year-old with a spoon.

On 7 April last year, an FDW of a family who had moved into a neighbouring unit noticed something amiss when she was with another maid.

She observed that the maid, who was from the Philippines, was slapping, kicking, and pinching two young children under her care – aged one and two at the time – whenever she was upset with them.

The assaults would start once her employers left for work.

The witness had also seen the FDW pulling the two-year-old’s hair and using a spoon to hit his mouth while feeding him.

This prompted the witness to film the assaults the next time they occurred.

On 11 May, the FDW kicked the two-year-old toddler in his abdomen while he was lying on the floor. Fortunately, the witness managed to record the incident on video.

Just five days later, when the toddler didn’t open his mouth for a spoonful of porridge and coughed, the maid hit his mouth with the spoon, causing him to cry.

She eventually managed to feed him a second spoonful of porridge, but when some of the porridge dripped out of his mouth, she hit the boy’s lips again. 

She struck him for the third time when the boy coughed and spat out some porridge after being hit.

The witness, wanting to collect evidence of her assaults, had filmed this incident too. She also had to tell the maid to slow down when feeding the boy as he still had food in his mouth and couldn’t swallow in time.

The next assault took place on 20 May, when the FDW was listening to a song on her phone while the two children were playing in the living room.

At one point, the one-year-old started to cry after his elder brother took his toy away from him.

Instead of simply giving the toy back to the younger child, the FDW pinched the elder child’s ear, making him cry, and later kicked him on the forehead when he looked up at her.

This woman has ascended straight from the depths of hell. 

Finally, on 5 June, the witness informed the mother of her maid’s behaviour, and she lodged a police report.

Jailed for 13 Months

Yesterday (1 July), the 41-year-old FDW was sentenced to 13 months imprisonment for repeatedly abusing the toddler under her care.

She pleaded guilty to two charges under the Children and Young Persons Act, with another charge taken into consideration during sentencing.

When examined at a hospital after the maid’s offences came to light, the then-two-year-old child was found to have suffered multiple injuries, including a 5cm scratch mark on his forearm, and bruises on his upper back.

The FDW will get out in 13 months, but it’s safe to say that no one will be leaving their kids with her anymore.
