Nearly two weeks have passed since Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) kicked in, and the tighter measures finally seem to be working.
Two days ago, 15 locally-transmitted cases were reported, our lowest figure since 12 May.
Yesterday (28 May), Singaporeans across the country breathed a sigh of relief as we learned that that number had stayed the same.
Here are the details:
Unlinked Cases Reported on 28 May Include Yet Another McDonald’s Delivery Rider
Of the 15 community cases reported yesterday, 4 are unlinked.
They are:
- a 28-year-old male Malaysia national who is employed by I-VIC Logistic Pte Ltd as a delivery rider for McDonald’s (Hougang Avenue 8)
- a 38-year-old female Singapore Permanent Resident who works at Sri Murugan Trading Pte Ltd (Anchorvale)
- a 49-year-old male Singapore Permanent Resident who works as a manager at Success Consultancy Pte Ltd
- a 62-year-old male Singaporean who is a retiree
Interestingly, the 28-year-old McDonald’s rider is not linked to the cluster involving other McDonald’s riders as he said he hadn’t been cross-deployed to other McDonald’s outlets.
The man developed a runny nose on 26 May, and was tested for COVID-19 as part of the health ministry’s testing operations for McDonald’s delivery riders.
His test result came back positive on the same day, as did his serology test.
McDonald’s Delivery Riders Cluster
The cluster involving McDonald’s delivery riders had three additions yesterday, namely:
- a 33-year-old male Malaysia national who works as a kitchen assistant at Pano Kato Grill, Pizza & Deli
- a 40-year-old female Singaporean who works at Wanderloft Capsule Hotel
- a 21-year-old male Malaysia national who works as a packer at DM Wines Pte Ltd
The 21-year-old was placed on quarantine on 22 May after being identified as a household contact of a previous case.
He developed a fever on 27 May and reported his symptoms, later testing positive for COVID-19. His serology test result is pending.
Chevy’s Bar and Bistro Cluster
Three new clusters were identified yesterday, including one at Chevy’s Bar and Bistro.
The two new cases linked to the cluster are:
- a 55-year-old male Singaporean who is a senior officer at NParks and has been mostly working from home
- a 23-year-old male Singaporean who works as a waiter at Royz Et Vouz (39 Sultan Gate)
The 55-year-old NParks officer is a family member of a previous case and was placed on quarantine on 24 May.
He was tested for COVID-19 on 26 May during quarantine, and developed a cough and runny nose on the same day. His test result came back positive on 27 May.
His serology test result is pending.
The man completed his vaccination regimen on 24 Feb, having received his first dose on 3 Feb.
Case 63714 & Case 63466 Clusters
The two other new clusters are linked to Case 63714 – a 74-year-old Singaporean retiree – and Case 63466 – a 59-year-old Singaporean woman who works at Mary Fashion and Trading.
One new case has been linked to the retiree, namely a 33-year-old female Singaporean who works as a manager at CIMB Bank (Raffles Branch).
She is a family contact of the retiree and was placed on quarantine on 24 May.
She developed a cough and lethargy on 25 May and fever the next day, and reported her symptoms.
She then tested positive for COVID-19 on 26 May. Her serology test result is pending.
Another new case was also linked to the Case 63466 cluster – a 56-year-old Singaporean man who works at Chai & Chai Trading.
Hong Ye Group Cleaners Cluster
The cluster which started with Hong Ye Group cleaners continues to grow, with three more additions reported yesterday.
They are:
- a 10-year-old male Singaporean who is a student at Lee Kong Chian Gardens School
- a 37-year-old female Singaporean who works as a part-time cleaner at ABBA Maintenance Pte Ltd
- a 12-year-old female Singaporean who is a student at New Town Primary School and was last in school on 18 May
The 10-year-old is a household contact of a previous case and was placed on quarantine on 27 May.
Earlier, on 23 May, he developed a fever and cough but did not seek medical attention.
When he was tested during quarantine, the result came back positive. His serology test result is pending.
No Dorm Cases
The last linked case is a 26-year-old female Singaporean who works as an administrative staff at Singtel.
Fortunately, no new infections in dormitories were detected.
15 Imported Cases
There was a jump in imported cases, though, as 15 more infections from abroad were reported yesterday.
They are:
- 2 Singaporeans and 6 Singapore Permanent Residents who returned from India and the Philippines
- 6 Work Permit holders who arrived from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar, of whom 3 are foreign domestic workers.
- 1 Short-Term Visit Pass holder who arrived from Indonesia for a work project in Singapore
241 Cases in Hospitals
At the moment, 241 confirmed COVID-19 cases are still in hospital, most of whom are stable or improving. 3 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 290 patients with mild symptoms and lower risk factors are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
35 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities recently.
