Unlinked Community Cases Reported on 2 June Include a Woman Who Works at a S’pore Pools outlet at NTUC FairPrice

As we’ve learned time and time again during the pandemic, it’s always too soon to celebrate victory.

When PM Lee said in his speech a few days ago that Singapore is on track to contain its recent community outbreak, many of us likely thought community cases would magically dwindle.

But we got a rude awakening yesterday.

24 community cases were reported, of whom 5 are currently unlinked. Here are the details:

Unlinked Community Cases Reported on 2 June Include a Woman Who Works at a S’pore Pools outlet at NTUC FairPrice

Among the 5 unlinked cases reported yesterday was a 61-year-old Singaporean woman who works at a Singapore Pools outlet at NTUC FairPrice (Clementi Avenue 3).

She had last gone to work on 26 May.

The woman developed body aches on 30 May, and then a fever and sore throat on 1 June. She sought medical treatment at a GP clinic on the same day, where she underwent an ART and PCR test, both of which came back positive on the same day.

Her serology test result is pending. The 61-year-old received her first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on 30 May.

The four other unlinked infections are:

  •  a 22-year-old female Myanmar national who works as a healthcare assistant at Grace Lodge
  • a 36-year-old Vietnamese woman who is a homemaker
  • a 43-year-old Singaporean woman who works in an administrative role at Changi Prison Complex, and had last gone to work on 2 March
  • an 80-year-old Singaporean woman who is a retiree

Changi Prison Complex Cluster

Another inmate at Changi Prison Complex has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total tally in the cluster to 15.

The latest case is a 46-year-old Singaporean man.

He was placed on quarantine on 13 May after being identified as close contact of a previous case.

He was tested regularly during quarantine and all his tests came back negative.

But on 31 May, his test result returned a positive result, even though he remained asymptomatic.

He has tested preliminarily positive for the B1617 variant, and is pending further confirmatory tests. His serology test result is pending.

Chevy’s Bar and Bistro Cluster

The cluster at Chevy’s Bar and Bistro also had one new addition yesterday, namely a 30-year-old Malaysian woman who is a massage therapist at Zenith Healing @ La Maison De Ja.

She is a close contact of a previous case and was placed on quarantine on 28 May. She developed a sore throat and cough on the same day, and was tested for COVID-19.

Her test result came back negative that day, but she later developed a fever on 1 June and was tested for COVID-19. This time, the test result came back positive. Her serology test result is pending.

Chevy’s Bar and Bistro cluster now has 7 cases.

Hong Ye Group Cleaners Cluster

Three new community cases were linked to the Hong Ye Group cleaners cluster yesterday, which now has 25 confirmed infections.

The three new cases are:

  • a 52-year-old Singaporean woman who is a homemaker
  • a 4-year-old Singaporean boy who is a student at The Spark Playhouse (406 Hougang Avenue 10)
  •  a 9-year-old Singaporean boy who is a student at Fu Hua Primary School and had last gone to school on 18 May

MINDSville@Napiri cluster

A new cluster has been identified at MINDSville@Napiri Adult Disability Home after a total of 27 people there tested positive for the coronavirus.

The health ministry said it would include four of the new cases in yesterday’s (2 June) daily case count, and 22 in today’s case count.

The four new cases are:

  •  a 30-year-old Filipino woman who works as a nursing aide at MINDSville@Napiri
  •  a 55-year-old Singaporean woman who is a resident at MINDSville@Napiri
  •  a 64-year-old Singaporean woman who is a resident at MINDSville@Napiri
  •  a 47-year-old Singaporean woman who is a resident at MINDSville@Napiri

The remaining case was – a 37-year-old woman – was included in Monday’s (31 May) case count.

NTUC Foodfare (308 Anchorvale Road) Cluster

A 20-year-old Vietnamese woman has been linked to the cluster at NTUC Foodfare, after she was confirmed to be COVID-19 positive yesterday.

She works as a kitchen assistant at the coffee shop.

She developed a fever on 29 May but did not seek medical attention. She was placed on quarantine on 30 May after being identified as a close contact of a previous case.

She was tested for COVID-19 infection on 1 June during quarantine and her test result came back positive on the same day. Her serology test result is pending.

Case 63806 Cluster

The cluster named after a 49-year-old male Singapore Permanent Resident who works as a manager at Success Consultancy Pte Ltd recorded four more infections yesterday.

They are:

  •  a 61-year-old Singaporean man who works as a technician at Gleneagles Hospital
  •  a 36-year-old female Singapore Permanent Resident who works as a senior executive at ICFC Pte Ltd
  • a 61-year-old Singaporean woman who is a canteen vendor at Greenwood Primary School and had last gone to work on 18 May.
  • a 39-year-old Singaporean man who works at Versaform

Case 63887 Cluster 

Two new infections were also linked to the cluster named after Case 63887 – a 65-year-old Singaporean woman who is a homemaker.

The two new cases are:

  • a 93-year-old Singaporean woman who is a retiree
  • a 28-year-old Singaporean man who works at Typo (Westgate)

Case 63941 Cluster

The second new cluster identified yesterday is linked to Case 63941 – the 36-year-old Vietnam national who was listed as an unlinked case yesterday (2 June).

Two new cases were linked to the cluster, namely:

  • a 3-year-old Singaporean boy who is a student at PCF Sparkletots Preschool (Kreta Ayer – Kim Seng), and was last in school on 14 May
  • a 71-year-old Singaporean woman who works as a stall assistant at 328 Katong Laksa Tiong Bahru Plaza and was last at work on 27 May

The last community case has not been linked to any active cluster, but was linked to other community cases.

He is a 24-year-old male Malaysian national who works as a barber at Atatcutz Singapore (348 Bedok Road).

7 Imported Cases

In addition to the 24 community cases, 7 imported infections were reported.

They are:

  • 2 Singaporeans and 4 Singapore Permanent Residents who returned from India and the UAE
  • 1 Long-Term Visit Pass holder who arrived from India

All 7 cases had been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival here.

216 Cases in Hospitals

At the moment, there are 216 COVID-19 cases in hospitals, of whom most are stable and improving. 2 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Another 328 cases with lower risk factors and mild symptoms are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

42 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities recently.
