A 46-year-old man from the United States was arrested on 9 Dec for allegedly molesting a six-year-old girl at Changi Airport.
The Singapore Police Force issued a news release on 10 Dec detailing the incident.
Alleged Molest in Transit Area
The incident occurred at around 4:55pm on 9 Dec at the transit area of Terminal 3.
According to preliminary investigations, the man had allegedly approached the girl while she was asleep next to her mother on a bench in the transit area. He then molested the girl.
The girl’s mother woke up and noticed the man’s presence and actions. She immediately confronted him, and he walked away from the scene.
The mother subsequently alerted the police.
Arrest Within Four Hours
Officers from the Airport Police Division established the man’s identity with the help of CCTV cameras, and arrested him within four hours of receiving the report.
The man will be charged in court on 11 Dec for using criminal force on a person with intent to outrage modesty.
If found guilty of the offence, he may be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or sentenced to any combination of the punishments.
