We all seem to have one goal in life. When we were younger, our goal was to study hard and finish our studies with a diploma or a degree so that we can land a good job. We were told that once we were done with studies, life would be so much easier. They said you’ll have more free time and you’ll have more time to enjoy yourself.
Lies.
That didn’t happen.
As you slog your life away because of work, you realise that there’s hardly any time for you to enjoy yourself anymore.
And the only thing motivating you to work?
Payday.
And bonuses.
Most companies offer mid-year and end-of-year bonuses to their employees as an added incentive to motivate them to do well. It also serves as a reward for having done well for the year.
So what’s the highest amount you’ve ever received for a bonus?
Because it probably won’t be able to beat what 198 employees of a real estate firm in the United States received.
What a Wonderful Christmas
It’s the season of giving and I’m sure many of us are very excited for Christmas to arrive.
In the meantime, a real estate firm based in Baltimore, United States, St. John Properties, just had their annual holiday party to celebrate the soon-to-be end of their financial year.
The executives of the company decided that that was the best time to bring out the cameras as they surprised their 198 employees with their bonuses kept in red envelopes.
As the camera pans across all of their faces when they open their envelopes to reveal their bonus, they all have one emotion in common.
Shock.
Some of them were even moved to tears.
Why?
Because they’ve just been given a bonus which ranges from US$50,000 to US$250,000 (~S$67,806 to S$339,032).
Their bonus amount was determined by how many years they’ve put into working for that company.
Me: Uhh… It seems that I’m working for the wrong company. Time to tender my resignation!
Editor: Wait, no, what are you talking about?!
Hard-Earned Money
It seems that the reason why the executives were giving out so much as a bonus was because their employees have done exceptionally well this year, which allowed the company to achieve their goal of developing 20 million square feet of office, retail, and warehouse space in eight states. This goal was originally set in 2005.
Edward St. John, the founder of the company, said “my philosophy has always been to surround myself with the best and the brightest – and that is what we have done. Every professional at St. John Properties is committed to excellence every day.”
He also added by saying “I steer the boat, but they’re the ones that run the boat, they’re the ones that make the boat go. Without the team we are nothing, we are absolutely nothing.”
Also, this bonus is apparently given out in addition to the employees’ existing year-end bonuses as well as other benefits.
It was reported that St. John properties also covered the travel and accommodation costs for all its employees in eight states to attend the party.
Congratulations to all the employees of St. John Properties and kudos to the founder of the company for rewarding their workers for their hard work.
