72YO Man in ICU at TTSH After Taking COVID-19 Vaccine, But No Indication That It’s Related to the Vaccine

With the Internet, it’s easy to come to conclusions based on what you believe and not based on facts, so other than specifically indicating the facts on the headline, here’s what needs to be reiterated: there’s no indication that the COVID-19 vaccine led to the elderly’s current condition.

Here’s what happened.

72YO Man in ICU  at TTSH After Taking COVID-19, But It’s Likely Unrelated to the Vaccine

MOH said that a man, who has a history of cancer, hypertension (high blood pressure) and hyperlipidaemia, a condition related to abnormal cholesterol, had received his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday morning.

Before taking the jab, he has been assessed by trained healthcare personnel to be suitable for the Covid-19 vaccination.

In addition, he was also observed on-site for about 30 minutes post-vaccination and was well.

However, that night, he had a cardiac arrest, which could be caused by heart attack or heart failure.

He is now admitted to intensive care at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

The authorities stressed that there is no indication that his condition is related to the vaccine he took earlier that day.

Further tests are currently being conducted to determine the cause of the man’s cardiac arrest.

MOH said, “The World Health Organization has found no evidence that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine contributes to an increased risk of death in the elderly.”

Currently, the COVID-19 vaccination exercise for seniors has started last month with pilots in Ang Mo Kio and Tanjong Pagar, where larger numbers of seniors live, and it will be open to all seniors from 22 Feb 2021.

MOH added that it is important to “vaccinate and protect our seniors as they are the most vulnerable to severe disease and complications from Covid-19 infection.”
