The COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed life as we know it.
In addition to wearing masks on public transport and waiting till we get home to cough, Singaporeans have also taken up new hobbies, such as:
- arguing with safe distancing officers
- learning how to make bubble tea just in case another mass closure occurs
- abusing bus drivers
Yes, for reasons unknown, more and more people have been abusing bus drivers since the coronavirus emerged.
This time, the incident occurred at an MRT station.
Man Allegedly Harassed & Verbally Abused Bus Driver, Causing Him to Stop the Service
A video of a man allegedly harassing a bus driver is attracting the attention of netizens.
The video of the encounter was shared in a Reddit post yesterday (7 July).
The short 35-second clip begins with the driver talking to someone over the phone or radio in Mandarin. His hand is held up to block his face, as the commuter in question records him.
The commuter even switches on his flashlight while doing so, shining the light directly on the bus captain’s face.
The commuter continues to argue with the bus driver and finally walks away at the end of the video.
Fortunately for us, we have more to go on than just that.
The netizen who uploaded the video provided more details of what led to the argument between the two.
According to him, the incident occurred on bus service 14 at Buona Vista MRT Station at around 9:20pm yesterday.
The commuter allegedly yelled and argued with the bus captain, and pulled out his phone to record him.
It’s unclear what angered the commuter or what he actually said, as the netizen said he was “incoherent”.
In response to the abuse, the bus captain called the police and reported the commuter.
Even while the driver was on the phone with the police, the commuter continued to abuse him.
This compelled the bus captain to move his bus to the front of the bus stop and halt the service.
“While getting other passengers to leave, the man ran off the bus but the bus driver did not pursue him. The bus driver restarted the service as the incident was already captured on the onboard cctvs and a report has been made,” the netizen said.
Man Demands Bus Driver to U-Turn Coz’ He Missed His Stop
Just a couple of weeks ago, another commuter went viral for arguing with a bus driver after he missed his stop.
Speaking in Mandarin, the man tells the driver that he had pressed the bell and the bus had not stopped, while the bus captain said he had not heard a bell ring when approaching the man’s desired stop.
So, the man had two options:
- Alight and find a way to get to his stop
- Literally anything but refuse to alight
So, of course, he refused to alight.
Insisting that he was right, the man demanded that the bus captain make a u-turn and send him back to his original stop.
But of course, the bus driver couldn’t do this, and probably has never done such a thing in his entire career.
When a fellow commuter suggested that he simply get off and walk back to his missed stop, the man said he’s an old man who can’t walk.
He eventually alighted, though, so by arguing over the precious time he had lost, the man lost even more precious time.
