It’s almost impossible to understand how all the subways work in different countries. With the many train lines, train station exits, platforms and even loop lines, it’s a challenge to decipher these operations even with the help of train maps. Just do a search on Tokyo subway system and you’ll understand how fortunate we are to live in Singapore!
Have you heard of the Koreans who got lost in the Singapore MRT? The video below will surely make your day!
They were filming for a TV show
Korean artistes Lee Sangmin and Kim lljung were filming a variety show, which they had to plan their fun and food with SGD $410. Their itinerary involved travelling to their first destination, Raffles Place.
They were even looking at the train map, counting the number of stops from Changi Airport and deciding on taking a nap on their journey there. All of them seem so confident with the route and how they decide to sleep on their 30 minutes journey.
Their mission is to get Kaya Toast for breakfast
Their first mission upon arriving was to eat Kaya Toast for breakfast, which is considered to be a typical Singaporean style breakfast. Things started to get funny when people were commenting online that there was a YaKun Kaya Toast at Terminal 3.
They had probably missed that out and found the next nearest place for Kaya Toast. And for this “mistake” that they missed out, both of them went through a lot to get that Kaya Toast.
They spent 1 hour travelling between Changi Airport and Tanah Merah
Both Lee Sangmin and Kim lljung were pretty confident of their journey, even setting alarms and planning to sleep for 15 minutes.
Things started to seem amiss when they started to realise the countless number of Expo stops there was when they woke up. They even thought that this Expo was so huge that there were so many train stops for it. Turns out, they didn’t know that they were supposed to change lines to get out of Tanah Merah.
And the worst part: they had been going to and fro in that loop line for 1 hour! Understandable, but still hilarious! With their comic actions and speech, they really succeed in making the filming look like a skit.
They finally manage to find Kaya Toast through asking the ticket office
Unlike other cultures where you can seek information from the ticket offices, the ticket offices in Singapore’s train stations usually only provides basic bus or exit directions. So it got even funnier when they tried to seek the location of YaKun Kaya Toast from the office. But fortunately for them, the staff was helpful enough to help them locate the place and even telling them the operation hours.
They had no idea how to eat soft-boiled eggs
Though they really enjoyed the toast and eggs, they were clueless on how to eat the soft-boiled eggs like a true Singaporean. They had no idea how it was made and they assumed milk was added to the eggs. After a few dips of the toast in the egg, they devoured the egg yolk along with the toast, which was simply too funny to watch.
You may not know it, but perhaps you’re doing something wrong when you’re in a different culture or country too. Do some research beforehand if you’d like, or you can just be funny like these Korean oppas!
