Butter Bean is giving the classic toast a cool and modern twist, with its many interesting and Instagram-worthy toast dishes.
Butter Bean, a new cafe chain concept by the BreadTalk group, will be targeting the younger generation with its sweet and savoury toasts and Nanyang-based coffee drinks.
It will be opening two outlets in Singapore within the next month.
Butter Bean: the Modern “Toast Box”
Butter Bean can be considered a modern version of Toast Box, and it is taking Singaporean breakfast dishes to the next level and making them extra IG-worthy.
Its first outlet will be opening in Funan Mall on 28 August, and the second one located in Vivo City will be opening in September.
The new cafe serves a range of dishes, but what stands out the most is their eight different flavours of open-faced toasts.
The inch-think toasts come with both sweet and savoury toppings, like Milo powder or chicken floss.
Both are things that I’ve never put on my toast before, but the pictures look pretty promising and I might actually give this a try.
Furthermore, they’re very affordable.
Starting at $2 each per toast, a total of eight flavours of toast are available, including:
- PB&J (peanut butter and strawberry jam)
- Flossy Chick
- Milky Milo
- Omu Cheese
Each slice of toast is made with New Zealand butter and Japanese-milled flour to get its fluffy texture.
You can add $3 to your toast for two eggs and a cup of hot coffee or tea.
Signature Nanyang Coffee Drinks
Next, let’s talk about their drinks.
Butter Bean serves coffee that is made from a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans, which are coated with a layer of caramelised sugar before roasting.
This is what gives it a distinctive Nanyang coffee taste.
They have quite a number of unique beverages, like the BBrûlée Kopi Latte ($3.20) and G.M. Kopi BBliss ($3.50).
The BBrûlée Kopi Latte consists of fresh milk, Nanyang coffee, and salted cream foam and it is topped with torched caramelised sugar.
It really is an atas way to start your morning.
Apart from coffee, they also serve tea-based versions of these drinks, and they have many other signature drinks as well.
One example would be ‘BB Rose’, which is a Bandung-inspired drink of rose water, rose jelly, and salted cream foam.
Some of their other drinks include Lychee Orange Tea, Lime Aiyu and Dino Milo.
Butter Toast Pockets & Other Mains
Butter Bean also serves sandwiches and butter toast pockets.
You can choose from Battered Fried Fish, Crispy Fried Chicken, or Basic Ham & Cheese.
All of them come with the same toppings inside, including an omelette, sliced cheese, lettuce, and a dressing of your choice.
Lastly, Butter Bean wouldn’t be a “modern” Toast Box if they didn’t sell some iconic main dishes sold in Toast Box itself.
You can get some of your local main dishes like prawn noodles and laksa, or opt for something more interesting like the Taiwan-inspired Braise Me Up ($6.80).
It consists of a deboned chicken thigh braised in a spiced soy sauce broth, king oyster mushrooms, tau pok (tofu puffs), and a sunny side up on rice.
Might be a little heavy for breakfast, but still sounds heavenly.
Both outlets will be open from 8am to 9pm, so you’ll be able to enjoy their IG-worthy toasts and coffee at any hour of the day.
