With nearly the entire world spending more time indoors these days, you can never have too many on-demand streaming services.
Sure, we already have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and more, but just like bubble tea, variety is key.
Fortunately for us, yet another streaming service will launch in Asia soon. And it’s the same one that’s home to franchises like Game of Thrones.
WarnerMedia Opens Regional Hub in S’pore; HBO Max Premium will be Launched Soon
Good news for local media companies: WarnerMedia has opened a regional hub in Singapore.
Their huge 40,000 sq ft office will take up two floors at Solaris, an office building located in the Fusionopolis hub in Singapore’s One-north business park.
Several of its brands, including Warner Bros, HBO, and Turner, will move their operations to the new Solaris office.
The office is said to be a “post-Covid, flexible work environment”.
Local Media Companies to Benefit
For those who don’t know, WarnerMedia is home to franchises including DC, Harry Potter’s Wizarding World, Looney Tunes, AdultSwim, Cartoon Network, and Game Of Thrones.
At the company’s opening, Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo noted that WarnerMedia will be working with local companies and professionals to produce original content.
So, if you’re a local filmmaker, this will be music to your ears.
In fact, 90 Singapore companies and 700 media professionals are expected to benefit from collaborations with corporations like WarnerMedia.
“Our local companies are hungry to tell the world the rich tapestry of stories from Singapore and the region,” Ms Teo said.
One local offering – season two of Folklore, a horror anthology series created by local filmmaker Eric Khoo – is already in production.
Folklore premiered on HBO Asia on 7 Oct 2018 and was renewed for a second season.
The six-episode series features stories based on Asian superstitions and national folkloric myths, with each episode led by a director from a different country.
It will soon be featured in the upcoming HBO Max streaming service.
Speaking of which…
HBO Max will be Launched Soon
Okay, now for the part you came here for.
At the opening of their office yesterday (24 Sep), WarnerMedia also announced the launch of HBO Max in Asia.
HBO Max is an online streaming service that gives you access to all of your favourite HBO shows, as well as other shows that aren’t included with the regular HBO package.
While the HBO GO streaming service is already in operation in Asia, HBO Max will include everything from HBO GO and HBO Now, but also a huge collection of other shows and movies.
No specific date was given for the launch, however.
For consumers in the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean, as well as some parts of Europe, HBO Max launched in May last year, and is still available today.
