For those who had no idea what is going on, here’s a breakdown:
Part 1
- Popular blogger, Ang Chiew Ting, also known as Bong Qiu Qiu was sued by social media advertising network, Churp Churp for a breach of contract and denying the company of commercial deals with more than 30 brands.
- Qiu Qiu hit back with a countersuit, saying that she went into these deals when she was already no longer a member of Churp Churp. She is also suing Churp Churp for failing to do its best to promote her websites and platforms, causing her to suffer losses from potential fees.
Part 2
- Churp Churp mentioned in a statement that despite numerous attempts to “amicably resolve” the matter, the blogger continued to “wilfully ignore” her contractual obligations.
- Qiu Qiu refuted the claims, denying having entered into such endorsements which amounted to “commercial, advertising or promotional deals” with third parties. She also pointed out that her contract with the firm had expired on March 21, and she was “no longer bound by the obligations” under the agreement.
- She also added that she assumed Churp Churp was okay with “free posts” — products sent “free of charge” to her directly with no obligation that she was required to post about the products, or products she had bought in her own personal capacity.
Part 3
- However, under Churp Churp’s contract clause under the agreement provided for the contract to be renewed automatically, unless terminated.
- Qiu Qiu pointed out that her contract with the firm had expired on March 21, and she was “no longer bound by the obligations” under the agreement, adding she had notified ChurpChurp that she would not be renewing her contract in September last year.
- Now that the matter is below the court of law, both parties have decided to decline any comments regarding the matter.
Yeah, so that’s the main gist of it, as we have summarized from here.
So what happens next?
While waiting for their court case, Qiu Qiu is now seeking crowd-funding to help with her legal fees. She is currently battling the case with the help of her friends, family, and her supportive readers. Qiu Qiu needs help with the legal fees as it can amount to a huge sum, and she has only her personal savings to tide her over for now.
