These days, you don’t have to travel to the other end of the globe just to get your hands on your favorite snacks because it’s available just right in front of our doorsteps. Pho, for example, used to be such a rare find in Singapore because no one really ventured into the world of Vietnamese cuisines. However, nowadays you see Vietnamese establishments everywhere you go and everyone is coming up with their own renditions of the dish.
But what is lacking, though, is the authenticity of the dishes because we don’t usually get the same consistencies as what we can get in Vietnam itself. Else, it’s always filled with too much MSG, so no thank you. Thankfully, we were invited to Pho Street which serves authentic Vietnamese food, with creations conceived by a true-blue Vietnamese chef to bring you a taste of the land of Pho. Plus, the prices are really competitive!
1. Bún Chả [NEW] (S$10.90)
Originated from Hanoi, the Bún Chả is a buzz-worthy Vietnamese dish served with grilled pork belly over white rice noodles with a special dipping sauce. The best way to enjoy Bún Chả is to dip the grilled meats and rice vermicelli into the bowl of specially concocted fish sauce with pickled green papaya and carrot. At a first glance, we were rather skeptical about this latest dish at Pho Street because, to be honest, it wasn’t the most photogenic on the table.
After taking the first bite, we were completely sold. Like the shut-up-and-take-our-money kind of sold. The dipping sauce had the perfect balance of sweet, salty and sour, and when paired with the rice noodles, it was heaven. It felt as though we were transported to Vietnam for a split second. Oh, and there aren’t many places that serve Bún Chả in Singapore, but Pho Street is one of them!
2. Pho Beef Combination (S$9.90)
Prior to this, I have tried the Beef Pho at Pho Street, and it was ranked as one of my favorites and also the one that was closest to my experience in Vietnam – though I do agree that it is subjective. The Beef Pho at Pho Street triumphs as one of their signature dishes.
Generously packed with ingredients like Beef Balls, Beef Slices, Beef Shank, Beef Tendons and Beef Tripe, the slightly-cloudy broth was rich, warm and full of flavor. Our only gripe was that the beef slices were a little tough!
3. Bánh Mì (S$6.90)
The Bánh Mì, or Vietnamese Sandwich, at Pho Street, came with a chock-full of ingredients and it was immensely satisfying.
The toasted crusty bread was stuffed with fragrant meat – a combination of Chicken, Beef, and Pork Belly, garnished with mayonnaise, pickled carrots and radish, cucumber, chili & fresh cilantro – a medley of ingredients that paired so perfectly together. There’s nothing not to love about this!
4. Vietnamese Street Snacks – a trio of Crispy Fried Pork Rolls, Roasted Chicken Skewers & Vietnamese Crabcakes (S$8.90)
As though our meal was not sumptuous enough, we were then served a basket of Vietnamese Street Snacks, which came with a trio of Crispy Fried Pork Rolls, Roasted Chicken Skewers & Vietnamese Crabcakes and their accompanying dipping sauce. The dish was served in a rustic bamboo tray which made as feel as though we were dining on the streets of Vietnam -a  truly authentic experience. We were head over heels with the pork roll, with morsels of yam and pork sufficiently packed in each roll with came with a hearty crunch with every bite. Yum!

5. Sesame Rice Crackers with Fragrant Minced Meat and Spices Dip (S$6.90)
While the crackers served were bland, the minced pork added a touch of flavor. The muted taste of the crackers, along with the spices and lemongrass in the pork interplaying in our mouths made this dish immensely satisfying to savor.
6. Fresh Summer Rolls with Prawn, Pork Belly and Fresh Herbs (S$4.90 for 2 pieces)
Nothing screams Vietnamese Food more than Vietnamese Summer Spring Rolls. I haven’t had the best experience with Vietnamese Spring Rolls as they sometimes have a raw aftertaste, but these were refreshingly appetizing. We also loved how the prawns and vegetables added a nice crunch which gave the dish an added dimension to the texture – doubt we can ever get sick of this.
7. Crispy Fried Chicken Mid-Wings served with Caramelised Sweet Dip (S$4.90 for 3 pieces)
And lastly, Vietnamese chicken wings which were also equally palatable! The crispy chicken wings were not one bit oily, and the chicken meat too, were well-encased in the batter to a moist and juicy finish. But I mean, who isn’t a fan of fried chicken wings?
