A Firm in S’pore is Offering $5,000 Monthly Salary for Bus Drivers With $10,000 Joining Bonus

Singapore Company Offers Lucrative $5,000 Salary for Bus Drivers Plus $10,000 Bonus

Are you cracking your head looking for a job opportunity?

Why not consider a career as a bus driver?

However, this isn’t about the usual SBS Transit buses but rather about chartered buses, specifically those operated by Westpoint Bus.

In a bid to attract potential bus captains, Westpoint is offering a starting salary of S$5,000 per month, along with a generous S$10,000 sign-on bonus.

This offer is quite remarkable, considering that, according to Indeed, the average bus driver salary in Singapore is around $3,025.

But why such a high salary?

Sales intelligence and engagement platform Apollo reveals that Westpoint currently has 18 employees but is experiencing a growing demand for more, particularly younger drivers.

The firm aims to recruit 30 drivers by the end of 2024, hoping to attract more young people to the bus industry and alter the societal perception of bus driving as a predominantly blue-collar job.

Established in 1982, Westpoint Transit has been a pioneer in introducing the first generation of air-conditioned buses in Singapore.

Its headquarters are located in Tuas, primarily operating in the western part of Singapore. The company specialises in transporting workers to areas not accessible by public buses, such as Jurong Island and Tuas South, accounting for about 95% of its services.

In a move to modernise its operations, Westpoint implemented Singapore’s first automated online booking system for chartered buses in 2019.

Despite the high salaries offered, Lee Jian You, the business development director at Westpoint, estimates that the costs will be manageable, according to Shin Min Daily News.

To qualify for this role, applicants must have at least one year of relevant experience, a valid Class 4 driving licence, and a vocational licence.

Successful applicants will receive a joining bonus of S$10,000 upon signing a three-year contract, according to Shin Min Daily News.

The drivers’ work schedule includes a six-day workweek, with a provision for seven days of annual leave.

However, there’s a cap on working hours, limited to a maximum of 44 hours per week.

Moreover, drivers will receive regular training on the latest bus technologies to adapt better to varying road conditions.

In addition to this, the company prioritises the health of its drivers by providing free exercise classes.

But that’s not all.

Drivers will also enjoy several perks, including group insurance and a variety of food and beverage options for their welfare.

It sounds almost too good to be true, and with many scams becoming more pravalent, it’s instinctive now to associate “too good to be true” things with a scam.

But as the firm’s response on Facebook suggests, there has already been a high number of applicants.

Instead of traditional job portals, the firm encourages prospective candidates to apply via a Google form.

The application deadline for the first phase is 15 January 2024 at 5pm, with the company aiming to hire 10 drivers in this initial phase.

Subsequently, they plan to recruit an additional 20 drivers in the second phase, reaching their goal of 30 new bus captains by the end of the following year.
