The term “work-from-home” invokes many feelings.
Is it one of annoyance, now that you can’t differentiate your work and relaxation space?
Do you feel sad that you can’t have the usual office banter with your colleagues?
Whatever it is, I don’t miss paying transport fare at least.
But the thing is, if your home is your workspace, what happens if you get injured? Could you get workplace injury claims or will this just be one of those grey areas?
Two Injured While Working From Home
According to TodayOnline, there is two official reported work injuries during Circuit Breaker.
As you may have guessed, both came from people who worked from home.
Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad echoed this statement and mentioned that both cases are being assessed at the moment.
Thankfully, he has also said that any past injury claims have been minor cases.
No one has gone mentally insane yet.
Even better was that Mr Zaqy said that the two were allowed to claim compensation from their employers.
“Work-from-home arrangements do not change an employer’s responsibility for work injury compensation.”
So yeah, you don’t really have to worry too much since your employer should have you covered.
But if you’re thinking about pulling some silly shenanigans to break the system, you may want to think again.

Only During The Course Of Work
In a statement to the Parliament on 4 June, Mr Zaqy had this to say.
He mentions that this only applied to injuries while doing things on the job. Any off work home activities do not count.
“This is a fact-finding exercise that is no different from all other WIC (work injury compensation) claims.”
So, please don’t punch the wall, fake the pain and try and take MC.
Mr Zaqy also that there should be evidence that the accident happened while the worker was, you know, actually working. Things would be too easy to abuse otherwise.

Some Can Return To Workplace
Depending on your job, you might’ve already returned or going to head back soon.
Since 2 June, places like manufacturing and production facilities have had about a third of their staff back to work.
Others include wholesale trade and finance companies.
While they can reopen without permission, they must still submit information for workers who return.
Even so, most of us are still working from home during this Phase One period. Please take care of yourself during these tough times.
Still…I wonder how those two guys actually injured themselves?
