This is a question you’ve probably asked yourself many times, especially if you own an iPhone, an iPad and even a MacBook to boot: What does the “I” stand for in the word iPhone arh?
And the next second, you’re back to scrolling and reading tweets, so much so that you’ve forgotten to look for the answer on possibly one of the most mysterious things in the Apple realm.
Not to worry though – we’re here to cover for you. And more because, we also wanna know leh.
What is the “I” FOR???
Well, be prepared to be amazed, as the answer’s the least you expected it to be. Scroll down and find out now!
The Answer Has Been Around Since 1998!
During a particular event in 1998, Steve Jobs (RIP, man) brought iMac into the world. He also spoke about the connection between the single vowel and the words Mac.
According to the legend, the “I” stands for not one, but FIVE things. We’ve listed it down right here for you:
Internet, Individual, Instruct, Inform, Inspire
In his speech, Jobs said that the iMac (way back then, yep) was derived from “the marriage of the excitement of the Internet with the simplicity of Macintosh.”
Apple was targeting it for the primary use that consumers told them what they want to use a computer for, which is really for nothing else other than to get on the Internet both fast and simply.
Wah, so damn relevant seh. And to think that it stood for just one word like Internet only all this while. Steve Jobs did thing, and did big things!
Why We Don’t See the “I” in Some Apple Products
Nowadays, got a new naming version for products by Apple. It seems like they have felt that the fruit deserves some recognition for being the brand name.
This is probably by the more recent items aren’t fully latched with the vowel “I” on them. Take, for instance, Apple Watch and Apple TV. No more generic names here.
Just an Apple with a picture of a bit-into apple logo on it.
Will the Alphabet Remain?
Well, there’s no way to know unless you read the minds of the brains behind Apple. If iPhone X is anything to go by, we’d say that they’ve got a new profound love for ending their products with another letter instead of just a number and/or an S.
Oh, and did you know that the company was at one point in a legal issue with Cisco, which also had a product with the exact same name? Yep, the company actually had rights to IOS and iPhone way before Apple did.
Go figure. All we now is that now, when you mention a product with the letter “I” in front of it, the first thing that comes to your mind has got to be good old Apple.
So guys, please keep on using the “I”.
