When it comes to wearing masks, Trump and his administration aren’t exactly fans of the notion.
But after the president himself, the number 1 hater of Covid-19, tested positive for Covid-19, it seems that things are set to change within the White House.
More People in the White House Now Ordered to Wear Masks After Trump Caught the Coronavirus
According to CNA, NSC staff were told to wear masks when in the common area and to minimise visits to the west wing of the White House.
An official also said on Friday (2 Oct) that the White House advises people to wear masks, although it’s not compulsory yet.
It was noted that more staff than usual were seen wearing masks at the White House after President Trump, together with first lady, Melanie Trump and Communications adviser Hope Hicks testing positive for the coronavirus.
Previously, when Trump was telling the country that the coronavirus will disappear, White House officials, as well as Republican politicians, have forgone the mask.
People like Deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger who insists on wearing a mask since earlier in the pandemic was mocked by staffers.
President Trump Still Hard At Work
With just a month to go before the presidential election in 31 days, his campaign advisers are worried that this infection might cost him the president’s seat.
Rallies had to be cancelled or moved online and they were not able to “travel and show enormous support from the rallies like back in 2016”.
In the last few months, while rational Americans were practising social distancing and wearing masks, Trump held large campaign rallies that drew thousands of supporters without implementing any safety measures, such as safe distancing or the mandatory wearing of masks.
Moreover, at a presidential debate on Tuesday (29 Sep), none of Trump’s family members who attended the debate wore a mask, except his wife Melania.
Nonetheless, the president is still working hard, officials from the White House said, and even as he woke up in the morning, he still asks about the economic situation of the country.
To know more about how the President of the United States landed in this state, here’s a short write-up my handsome colleague did to explain the phenomenon:
By the way, Trump isn’t the first president to be infected with the coronavirus.
It’s Brazil’s president, who’s also known to be a hardcopy of Donald Trump.
