Looking at the Covid-19 pandemic, you’d find yourself thinking: when will this end?
Well, here’s what the World Health Organisation (WHO) has to say: It will never end.
Now, before you give up on life and go out to be sovereign number 2, know that it might not be all bad.
WHO Now Admits COVID-19 May Never Go Away & Become a Virus in Our Community
On 14 May 2020, WHO told countries around the world that Covid-19 might “never be wiped out”.
“This virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away.” – Michael Ryans, WHO’s emergencies director
Lockdowns Don’t Work Magically
The WHO is concerned with how some countries are easing themselves out of lockdown measures.
They say that it’s “not a guarantee” that doing so will not lead to a second wave of the highly infectious virus reappearing again.
The organisation recommends that countries should keep themselves at the “highest level possible” and added that there is still a “long, long way to go” before we can go back to normal.
Okay, remember the good news I promised you above? Here it is.
Covid-19 Will Become Endemic Instead of Being Wiped Out
The idea of Covid-19 being a permanent part of our lives is scary AF.
But here’s something that’ll make you feel better, it’s going to become endemic.
Reader Bao: How’s that going to make me feel better?
Well, the chickenpox is also considered an endemic infection.
A more recent case of a deadly virus becoming a part of our lives is the H1N1, a respiratory-type virus as well.
You can read here to find out how H1N1 ‘died‘ in Singapore and it’s not through containment.
So let us all take the #CB measures seriously, unlike these 26 people, and work to pull through this together.
All in the name of Bubble Tea.
