A 28-year-old woman was sentenced to four days’ jail on Friday (21 August 2026) after pleading guilty to filing a false police report against her boyfriend, a 60-year-old bus captain.
Tang Pei Si, whose name is a transliteration from Mandarin, admitted to one charge of making a false report, according to reports by Shin Min Daily News, Lianhe Zaobao and Mothership.
The incident happened on 6 October 2024, after a dispute between Tang and her boyfriend over S$400.
Dispute Over Borrowed Money
Tang and her boyfriend, Hong Ya Rui, had been dating for about 10 years, according to Lianhe Zaobao.
Hong worked as a bus captain at Hougang bus interchange and travelled daily between Malaysia and Singapore by motorcycle. When he worked afternoon shifts, he would bring lunch for Tang, who was facing financial difficulties, and eat with her at the interchange.
Tang had also borrowed money from him during their relationship.
Before the incident, Tang had returned S$400 she owed Hong. However, she later regretted returning the money and asked for it back because she wanted to spend it on clothes and shoes.
Hong refused, which upset her.
Police Report Made On Bus
On 6 October 2024, Tang went to the interchange at about 2pm to wait for Hong to bring her lunch.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, Hong arrived at about 2.25pm as it was raining. After they ate, Hong prepared to start work.
Tang became angry because she felt he did not have enough time for her. She pulled at his uniform and tried to stop him from leaving, but Hong pushed her hand away and left.
At about 2.43pm, Tang boarded bus service 112, which was driven by Hong, and sat in the front seat.
She became increasingly upset over what she felt was being “abandoned” at the interchange and the dispute over the S$400, Lianhe Zaobao reported.
Tang then called the police and claimed that Hong had stolen her S$400, hit her and twisted her left hand.
She also told police that the person she accused was driving the bus she was on.
False Report Led To Bus Disruption
Because of the report, Hong had to stop the bus and wait for police officers to arrive.
The three passengers on board had to get off the bus and wait for the next service, according to Shin Min Daily News and Mothership.
During police investigations, Tang admitted that she had made the false report because of a personal dispute with Hong.
