Some people resort to theft because they’re destitute and need money for basic necessities.
Some steal to feed their drug addiction.
Others, like this Singaporean woman, stole because she wanted some beauty products.

Stolen credit card
A 54-year-old woman was recently arrested for allegedly using a stranger’s credit card on a shopping spree.
The woman used the card for several unauthorised transactions that amounted to more than $700 at retail outlets.
The victim filed a report on March 1 after he lost his credit card.
Imagine the joy she felt at having a magical card that could buy her anything for free.
The joy was short-lived though.
Arrest
The woman was arrested in Toa Payoh Lorong 3 on Thursday (Aug 29).
Officers from the Commercial Affairs Department had identified the woman after they carried out follow-up investigations.

The police later seized cosmetic products that the woman reportedly bought using the stolen credit card.
They also found receipts of the unauthorised transactions.
The woman is expected to be charged in court on Friday for cheating.
If found guilty, she may be jailed up to 10 years and fined.
That’s 10 precious years of your life gone all because you wanted that new lipstick.

Police adviceÂ
In their statement, the Police advised the public to be vigilant and keep their valuables safe in public.
They also offered advice on how to prevent credit card theft:
- Cardholders should opt for an SMS notification to be sent to their mobile phones if charges are incurred on their credit or debit card.
- They should check their bank statements and alert the bank to any discrepancies or fraudulent charges immediately, as well as refrain from giving their card details to strangers.
So if you check your bank statement and see that someone has purchased 50 new products from Sephora in the last week, your credit card has probably been stolen.
If it hasn’t, as Taylor Swift said, you really need to calm down (with the shopping).
