If we were to talk about countries with the wackiest reasons for arresting someone, Singapore would definitely be high on the list for arresting folks for the quirkiest reasons.
Take this recent case, for instance.
A woman got into trouble but not because of some online scam or bank robbery.Â

Nope. The reason she ended up in cuffs is a real head-scratcher. Are you ready for it?
She got arrested for simply putting her feet up on the seats of an SBS bus, contributing to what they call an ungracious public transport culture.Â
Woman Became Confrontational Towards Bus Captain
Just earlier this week, a video went viral on social media, featuring a rather tense encounter between a woman and an SBS bus captain, as she decided to prop her feet up on the seat in front of her.
In the video, which was uploaded on TikTok, we see the woman casually resting her feet on the seat right in front of her.Â

Interestingly, there are clear signs pasted on both sides of the bus, and right there on the row where she was seated, instructing passengers not to use those backwards-facing seats as footrests.
However, when the bus captain approached her regarding her “ungracious” behaviour, things took a rather unpleasant turn.Â
Instead of acknowledging her actions and apologising, the woman chose the route of confrontation. She became loud and aggressive in her disagreement with the bus driver.
In an act of defiance, she took it a step further by leaning back and resting her feet on the grab poles of the bus.Â

It was quite the scene, to say the least.
She Was Actually Arrested
As reported by The Straits Times, the woman was arrested last Thursday (26 October) following a dispute with the bus captain on an SBS bus.
The police were notified of this incident on a bus travelling along Boon Lay Way towards Jurong East Central at around 6.17pm.
While it’s true that the woman was arrested for not adhering to public transportation rules, one can’t help but wonder what the police officers were thinking when responding to such a call.
After all, arresting someone for simply placing their feet on a bus seat might sound like the most minor of offences.

This entire incident seems as if it was taken straight from a sitcom plot, but alas, it’s a glimpse into the real world.
The police released a statement, saying, “A 50-year-old female passenger was subsequently arrested for public nuisance. Police investigations are ongoing.”
Not the First Time Woman Acted Defiant
We initially hoped that the previous incident was a one-time occurrence and that the woman involved would show some form of graciousness and respect when using public transportation.Â
However, we were wrong.
Back in January, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to the individual in this recent case was captured on video engaged in a heated argument with a fellow passenger on a public bus.

This particular incident gained significant attention on TikTok, where a video surfaced showing the woman propping her feet up against the side of the bus.Â
She also garnered notoriety on Stomp for her behaviour in that instance.
