Frequent Otter Sightings in the Area
When reporters visited around 10:00 AM on Sunday, they found the park connector located beside the Singapore River with at least 10 meters of the path cordoned off.
Police had already left the scene, but three staff members in NParks uniforms remained to investigate. Some animal enthusiasts were also present, speaking with the authorities.
Members of the public interviewed said otters frequently appear in this area. One person who wished to remain anonymous said she walks her dog along the park connector every morning.
“I see otters almost daily, and I saw one yesterday,” she said.
She pointed out that usually at least five or six otters appear in the area, swimming and playing in the river. “They occasionally walk on the park connector as well.”
Public Warnings in Place
Upon observation, this section of the park connector displays at least three warning signs alerting the public about otters, stating “Please maintain a safe distance from otters.”
One sign reads, “An otter family is temporarily residing in this area, and it’s their nature to care for and protect their young,” reminding the public to observe only from a distance.
An NParks spokesperson confirmed receiving a report of an otter biting incident.
