The altercation began just before takeoff when the child told Crampton she was too fat to sit in her airplane seat.

Witnesses reported that Crampton immediately started swinging at the boy in response to his comments.
Crampton punched the child before hitting him with a water bottle. She then slammed the boy’s head into the airplane window as he attempted to block her attacks with his arms.
The pilot called police for assistance. Crampton was taken into custody at the gate before the aircraft could depart.
Police Report Details Crampton’s Version of Events
Crampton told police officers that the child had been “very rude” and “disrespectful” throughout their Disney trip. She claimed her actions were attempts to discipline the boy after he made comments about her weight.
According to Crampton’s statement, she took the child’s phone away after he called her “fat” on the plane. She said she began “smacking” him when he twice pushed her arm off the armrest.
However, witnesses contradicted her account of the incident. One witness told police that “the woman was not correcting the child; she was abusing him.”
The police report stated that Crampton’s actions went beyond “typical disciplinary actions.” Officers determined her behaviour constituted abuse rather than discipline.
Court Appearance and Legal Consequences
Crampton appeared in Seminole County court on Tuesday 27 May 2025. The judge granted her release on a US$10,000 (~S$12,900) bond.

She has been ordered to have no contact with the child as part of her bail conditions. Crampton faces felony child abuse charges in connection with the incident.
The exact relationship between Crampton and the boy remains unclear. The family declined to provide statements to police regarding the incident.
Both Crampton and the child were part of a group returning to Maryland from their Disney World vacation when the altercation occurred.
